Even though I am not afraid to die, I was seriously worried of getting it and suffering longterm effects. I had a really nasty bug last year in March (I think it might have been Covid given the timing, but I wasn't tested then as it all was fairly new), which knocked me out and into bed rest for three weeks. It left me so weak, I had to sit down on a park bench twice when I went to my moms for weeks. My mom lives 10 mins walk away from me and I normally walk the dog between 7 and 10 kilometers a day. The possibility to crawl around all weak and useless for the next 25 or 30 odd years till I bite the dust was terrifying! How much so I only realized after I got my shot and the relief was palpable. I got Pfizer in March btw, it was a leftover because my moms 97 year old neighbor didn't want hers, fearing negative long term effects of a vaczine that has no long term studies 🙄 My mom was like "ok, hope someone will remind me to exhume you when the have a ten year study of it!" 😂 Her loss, my gain.Otherwise I would have had to wait till now and get AstraZenca. Which I'd have totally taken, too. |

My mom has been saying from the beginning that she doesn't trust the vaccine. And yet, she's been super happy for me that I was able to get both my shots. This makes no sense to me. But a ton of her friends have gotten vaccinated with nothing more than very minor and expected side effects, so at this point it looks more like sheer stubbornness than anything else. I'm hoping peer pressure gets to her eventually. |

My moms flat is in a complex comprising of three houses bulit for senior residents. So they are all older than 64 or so. One of them organized a mobile vaccination team to come over and give them all their shots. Which was a really big thing to make happen as they did roll out vaccinations by age groups here in Germany. So people living there were able to get their shots at a time slot reserved for 90+ citizens. The mobile team was there for two days. Some didn't want to get their shots so in the afternoon one of the soldiers was in the street searching for passersby who wanted to get vaccinated with the overhang. They were scheduled to come back after three weeks. A couple of days later they were called back because now some of those who didn't want to get their shots had changed their minds when they heard no one had had side effects other than the odd ache where the shot was administered. This was when I got lucky. After their second shot some said they were tired, but all in all everyone was quite happy with how it went and now to be able to see their grandkids and kids and friends again without fear. Another thing changing minds here is the hoops one has to jump through to go shopping for non essentials or getting a hair cut, like having a test no older than 24 hrs. Time slots at the test stations can only be booked online, so this makes it difficult for a lot of older folks and the vaccination instantaneously more attractive. |

Because I think it is very inappropriate to try to force people who choose not to be vaccinated to get the shot. Be that by harassing them, or throwing obstacles to life in their way so they have no other viable choice.
You see, I consider it ridiculous to think you know better than others what their choice should be regarding vaccination. So I use sarcasm to make my point against those that want to force their beliefs upon others. Yes, my comment was ridiculous. It was intended to be ridiculous - to make a counterpoint against a previous ridiculous statement. That is how sarcasm works. FWIW, I chose to be vaccinated. But I would never force that choice on anyone else. Others here seem to think differently. I do not agree with them. |

So make your arguments, using your logic and research. But comments like "maybe we should shoot them" can't be reasoned with. It's ridiculous and convoluted, and no one is going to waste time trying to discuss it, because there is no reasonable response for the unreasonable comment.

If the unvaccinated didn't want to either be tested or get vaccinated, then they could be required to wear a mask to enter certain places. That is not a huge hardship for most people.
