I ended up resetting it which was quick and painless. We will see if that changes it. I don't trust myself to use it without a cover. I will order a non wake cover and see if that helps too. Thanks for assisting. I really appreciate it!

Wait to see if the reset fixes the problem. The sleep cover should not cause a problem if it;s just sitting n one place. It's only a problem when it shifts and keep waking up the Kobo.

Extreme battery drain. I turned off wifi. Turned off sleep cover. Set it to sleep after 5 minutes and then to shut down after 10. No change. Clock is all wonky even though I have it set to my time zone. 99% charged at night and wake up to 1% battery. This has been happening for 3 days now. The time change has been happening for about a week (that is about how long I think I have noticed it).

It's a bit frustrating since I read all the time and was used to the battery lasting.
Just so you know, the time changing is probably due to the battery being completely dead, which stops and resets the RTC every time it discharges completely. So that particular problem is not a software issue, I don't know how to fix your battery problem, but once it's fixed, you probably won't have the wonky clock issue again.

Thanks everyone! I will hold off on buying the cover until I see results of the reset.

I'm hoping it'll work!!!

I had this issue with the KA1 at launch. The official cover didn't put the Kobo to sleep but instead moving back and forth to sleep mode, draining the battery within the day. So I just decided to shut down the device completely at each reading session (and still doing that).

You can turn off the sleep function so your cover will not put the KA1 to sleep. That way, you won't need to keep rebooting so often. Rebooting so often will cause more drain on the battery then just putting it to sleep.

I wonder though if turning off the sleep cover function is sufficient. Nothing says the Kobo is still not detecting the magnet and just ignoring it

The last battery issue we solved (that I know of) was due to a problem with the sleep cover.

So far so good. Read for most of the day left yesterday and some today and am sitting at 88%. Tonight will be the true test to see if it worked. So far everything is performing like normal.

Although I have the sleep cover feature turned off, I noticed that I cannot turn on the device if it is closed. Shouldn't that not be possible? But in hindsight, the only feature that is actually turned off is the wake to open and close to sleep....

ETA: Reset must have worked. There has been no significant loss of battery. I am still keeping off the sleep feature for now. Thanks all.
