Yes the PERKOPOLIS discount code applied on the checkout screen reduces the after tax price in Ontario to $508.50 instead of $564.99. GST and QST together are a bit higher in Quebec than the HST in Ontario so you would save a bit more in tax even though your end price would be a bit higher, if that makes sense. Too bad you are not in Alberta, $472.50 with tax.

That's alright, I was thinking it would be 499$ USD so it's a nice surprise.

With the screenshot of @salamanderjuice of a DnD PDF, I think I'll dive in

Well, it's looking like my go-to device "if my H2Ov1 gets smashed" is still the Libra. I'd like a Forma, but I don't think the larger screen is worth $113 CDN to me...

Still, the Elipsa is a neat bit of kit. Guess the Remarkable has some mainstream NA competition now.

I'm with you, perhaps even more emphatically because the difference here is equivalent to $170CAD. If a future Forma adds features hat appeal, maybe that massive difference will seem more worthwhile.

Depends. I have no problems with switching between my 7.8" Nook and my 7" readers. In fact I prefer the latter, as they're not so heavy. But I wouldn't want to go back to 6".

On the official kobo press release, it also mentions "It also comes with a Dark Mode option for white text on black." I wonder if they are going official with that, iirc right now it's still under the developer's section....

I won't be getting this as it's too big for casual reading and I already have the RM2 for note taking. But it's an interesting step by Kobo.

Not always true. I went from 6" (Bookeen Cybook Gen3/BeBook One) -> 9.7" (Kindle DXG) -> 6.8" (Kobo Aura HD/H2Ov1) -> 7.8" (Aura One) -> 8" (Forma).

8-ish inches is the sweet spot for me. I only bought the Forma because I wanted the buttons, and I won't be getting an Elipsa, nice bit of kit though it is.

This is for genaral epub reading. If I were into PDFs and note taking it would be something else; I'd snap one up in a heartbeat.

I wonder whether the Elipsa will be recognized OOTB by calibre. I foresee some needed enhancement(s) to, for instance, exchange the handwritten epub annotations and separate created handcrafted "notebook"-function files.

For the moment I think it will be a manually activity to retrieve those files from the Elipsa.

Another question is who is going update the existing drivers if need be?

Support for the Elipsa should be in calibre by the time it is available. I have it on good authority that the bits calibre currently uses has not changed.

The annotations side is a different matter. I have no idea how that works or if there is any point in adding function to calibre for it.

This is just an educated guess, but I'm assuming annotations are stored into the pdf or epub files themselves, iirc both support annotation functionality and it would explain why drm'd pdf's can not be annotated.

The notebook functionality will most likely just result in pdf files.

I bet that it's stored as vector information in a sqlite database.
