If they are using the same eInk 10.3" 1404x1872 screen, it's a Mobius plastic substrate device. If they had gone for colour, that 10.3" display has a glass substrate. Assuming no one has done a special order display with it's added costs and that eInk is keeping their webpage somewhat up to date. See attached image for stock displays.

No? The Boox Note Air and Remarkable 2 both have B&W 1404x1872 10.3" eInk displays with glass substrates. The Boox Note 3 has a 10.3" 1404x1872 Mobius display and they clearly advertise that on the Note 3 page but don't mention Mobius on the Note Air (because it ain't).

If it was a Mobius display I'd imagine Kobo would advertise that fact too like they do on the Forma.

EDIT:This making of article on the Boox Note Air shows off the screen and discusses it's not Mobius and why it has the same side chin thing.

At this point, the only item I can find in eInk's stock offerings with a Carta 1250 label is the 10.3" color display with a glass backplane. Given that it's been ~4 years since the article you linked to and there seems to be no general availability, at a guess, it may still be exclusive to Sony. OTOH, the Kaleido 6" and 7.8" colour displays are also not listed in their catalogue suggesting that they are also special order or someone at eInk updates their webpage every decade or so.

A possible source for the Kobo Elipsa might be from Linfiny. Though they do not mention a 10.3" device on their webpage, the home page does show two devices with different size screens. They use a Wacom EMR stylus, quad core 1.8GHz processor, 32GB memory, WiFi ac, etc.

From eInk's web page, the Remarkable 2:
Quote:
reMarkable Paper Tablet is equipped with 10.3” E Ink Mobius ePaper Display (226dpi, 1872 x 1404). The pen supports 2048 levels of pressure, super high precision sensitivity, lets you keep your handwriting and add the subtlest details to your sketches.
Now you have me wondering why the Note Air went with a glass substrate. Obviously there must be some reason that they saw that as an advantage but what might it be?

The Remarkable 1 has a Mobius screen and that's what they show on the site. The RM2 has a glass substrate. That's part of why the RM2 has this same chin design. They all have displays with flexible printed circuit boards on the long edge instead of the short edge.

If it was Wacom EMR, it wouldn't have a battery in the stylus.

Read the following in the Verge "first look" review.

And while the note-taking aspect makes the Elipsa a unique entry for mainstream e-readers, there’s some caveats: PDFs with DRM can’t be marked up or annotated...

I'm kind of wondering why.

Now I am really going to have to dig into why two companies have elected to use a heavier glass substrate display. One item I didn't notice before was the pen mentioned for the Remarkable on the eInk site is the Remarkable 1's 2048 pressure level pen.

I don't think marking up your personal DRMed PDF would qualify as "modifying it." I guess I just assumed that the document would have two layers — the underlying book and the markup "overlay." Is this the norm for all these large PDF eInk readers? — not being able to write notes on top of a DRM PDF?

- Kobo Glo N613 and Kobo Mini N705 in September 2012
- Kobo Aura HD N204B and Kobo Aura N514 in April and August 2013

- Kobo Clara HDN249 and Kobo Forma N782 in June and October 2018.

The problem is they don't always do that. So, I don't know if I should/can wait another 4 or 5 months to see if they do that this time. My active Kindle's battery now loses about 20% each day and the old one I use to download books just lost its entire charge in one day.
Yes I know all that. And I used that page to check. The point I was making to @RowdyRuff was that never had a two releases per year. If you look at the releases, you will see they rarely go three release time-slots in a row. And they do skip some years. While I think a replacement for the Forma or Clara HD is due, I don't think there will be one this year, but, I also have a terrible record for predictions . If you need a device now, buy it now. But, that is my usual advice. Waiting for the upcoming magically perfect but not actually announced device usually leads to disappointment.
