I'm reading Persuader and I'm having a hard time with it. All the sentences are really short and there's too much description, like "The driveway came up to the house. The steps were cracked marble. The door was oak." It's killing me.

Just finished Now and Forever by Ray Bradbury, The Tomb and Legacies (Repairman Jack) by F Paul Wilson. Next I'm going to catch up with Robert Rankin's - The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse, The Toyminator, Fandom of the Operator, Web Site Story. Also reading Don Quixote by Miguel Cervantes, The Penal Colony by Richard Herley.

A lot of people seem to really like Lee Child's work, but I couldn't make it through Killing Floor. It was like an episode of the A-Team but not as fun. A lot of Macho stuff going on, but it felt fake-macho to me, like someone bragging about how tough they are. If you want something along those lines that rings true, get hold of Richard Stark's (Donald Westlake) "Parker" series. |

I think the writing style is intentional and works very well for the books. I actually had much more problem with the first two Dresden books that I have read since there think the writing did not add to the book (it was OK but nothing more).

I'm giggling my way through the Hal Spacejock series. Each book is funnier than the one before. I just finished a scene where Hal and his faithful robot companion, Clunk, rode down from a space station on a space elevator. There was a terrorist hijacker, but the passengers kicked his butt and the hijacker left the elevator under police escort. It's funnier when you read Simon Hayne's version, I promise!

I'm just about to start (I think I mentioned earlier) catching up on some Robert Rankin I missed. If you don't know who Rankin is, he's a humorous writer from England and in my estimations about a gajillion times funnier than Pratchett. If you're not familiar with Rankin, here is a picture:
![]() His latest in paperback is The Da-Da-De-Da-Da Code |

End of the World Blues - Jon Courtenay Grimwood
Enjoying it so far, got a few more of his lined up but I might snack on another Dresden Files first. ![]() |
