I remember the DX, and my post was not "what about aboutism," it was posted in amused response to the angry subjectivity of your article, reeking of someone feeling personally offended by Kobo for some reason and cherry picking accordingly.

The Forma came out after the Oasis, arguably "a day late", but feature wise definitely not "a dollar short". If anything, that definition would better apply to the Libra, a nearly exact match for the Oasis, except in being many, many dollars short of the Oasis in pricing.

I really couldn't care less about the Elipsa, that niche has zero interest for me, but it is unquestionably true that Kobo has got a jump on its primary competitor with this. Given the vitriol of your article, I am kind of curious whether the tone would have been the same had Amazon been the first of the major Western players to enter this market space instead of Kobo. I'll await your paean on the Kindle version with bated breath. Or not.

The text looks rather pale, without much contrast.

I don't know that I would call it a disaster.

It was a bit of a stinker in the usability category, but the hardware was and is beautiful.

Kobo has never had a two release each year schedule. They tend to do releases in either April/May or September/October. And while they occasionally do two of those in a row, they rarely do three in a row. But, I do hope there is another device coming. An update to the Forma is what I "need".

OK, now I'm confused.

Why would Kobo make this available so close after Father's Day?

What will we do with all our saved-up Mother's Day predictions and the humor that surrounds this seasonal joke?

Kobo, endear us to your hearts again: Please only announce impending units on Mother's Day! I implore you!

..Or do I go over to the 'light side'?

It's always mother's day somewhere:
https://www.officeholidays.com/holidays/mothers-day

This year Kobo must have decided to split the difference between the 9th and the 26th of May.

Far too little RAM (hence the DXG lacks upgrade for KF8 that the KK3 got) and too slow a CPU for image based PDFs.

Also heavier than my 10" Lenovo tablet! Really tiring. It was intended for academia and it was a failure for text books:
1) Too slow
2) Not enough flash on board or no SD card slot
3) GUI really only suits fiction, too limited ability to quickly flick between books.
4) Poor to none ability to annotate PDFs. Most academic titles PDF.
5) Resolution a bit too poor for technical documents.
6) No ability to set/date time if battery goes flat.
7) No auto crop of PDF margins.
8) No support (except some greek letters) for Asian, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic etc, even though a solved issue maybe 15 years earlier on the actual OS.
9) Cover not built-in, supplied standard, needed for Uni Students and bags.

Basically a KK2 with a bigger screen and metal case.

It's weird that they switched back to a Carta screen, not sure if would want such a big Reader and worry about flex defects...

Just the generic one color Comfort light.

I would really like a 10" Reader for at home but the Tradeoffs seem to big to switch from a Forma.
