I agree, it's screen is too large for me as I would rather want a device that I can also use while reading in bed. I like the note and annotation aspect of the device. IMO the Boox Nova 3 has the right size but their software is not good enough.

I was right that $400 was the goal price. This thing is targeted at potential Remarkable 2 users. I am disappointed with the route they went with the pen. Requiring a battery is annoying.

What is a problem for me is the 227 dpi. I'm looking for an e-ink device to read my PDFs but I doubt that going up from 8" to 10,3" would make it easier on my eyes since I would be going down from 300 dpi to 227 dpi. Some of my PDFs are poor quality.

I hardly notice between my Nova 2 and Note Air especially on PDFs. It's comparable to the difference between an iPad and iPad mini if you've seen that. Yes one is a little sharper but unless you're really staring you probably won't notice.

Right handed

The Elipsa should have been made with the wider side on the left.

Actually, if you look at the video carefully, it's shown that you can hold the device in either orientation.



Not a surprise either, the Forma already supports this.

That's what I've been wondering. It looks like it has been designed for left-handers - hold the wide bezel in the right-hand and write with your left. But, maybe the expectation is that hand is partly resting on the wide bezel when using the stylus.

The cover seems to be one that attaches to the end. Maybe it can be put on either end to change orientation. And I really hope they are supporting landscape mode.

As a left hander...no it hasn't. The Note Air has taught me that having the wide side on the left is far better for writing. On an iPad with thin bezels the start of a line is a weird torturous thing because there is no where to rest my hand and I have to float it above the table. On the Note Air I just rest it on the bezel. I imagine this would also benefit right handed people writing languages like Hebrew or Japanese vertically.

I'm not sure how often people are going to be holding it and using the stylus and not placing it on their lap or a table to write?

It seems to me that the Elipsa is a bit late to market due to chip fabrication and supply issues, and that is saying to me that Kobo intended to get back to their schedule of two releases each year; so, there may be another device in the pipeline before the year's out...

Saying that, the Clara slot is the oldest model and is the 'odd one out' in the lineup, followed by the Forma, so it's anyone's guess which Kobo decides to refresh first...

When it comes to ereaders, Kobo has always been either a day late or a dollar short (or both).The asymmetrical Kobo Forma launched a couple years after the similar-looking Kindle Oasis. (And let’s not forget that Kobo still doesn’t have a model with a color E-ink screen.)

Somehow, it seems I've missed seeing both Amazon's 8-inch reader AND its color e-ink reader.
