I've never heard of Kobo holding back a firmware release because code divers.

If there is a shortage, then that would be a good reason for Kobo to be holding off until sometime in September (fall release) so they have enough stock.

Considering that our corporate orders for everything from laptops to access points to switches to monitors have run into delivery delays (yes, you can get those laptops but instead of June, it'll be late October before they can be delivered), I'd be very surprised if Kobo was not seeing the same slowness in the supply chain.

We've actually gotten more info about future devices out of *Kindle* FW than Kobo's, FWIW (namely: bye, NXP).

I suspect that the Chinese were much harder hit by the Corona virus than they've revealed.

My soon-to-be 5 year old Aura One is not lasting nearly as long as it used to between charges. I'm up for a new e-reader, but don't want to drop $ on a Forma until I see what's coming. *sigh*

I suspect the Renesas fire is more relevant. They make embedded cpus, and 2/3 of their output goes into cars; at least two car companies have halted production because of that. Even if Renesas isn't involved in making Kobo chips, as an emergency measure, they outsourced some of their production to other companies while they repaired the fire damage, and those companies might be involved with kobo's chips or something...

On the bright side, they've already repaired the damage, and I think they are ahead of schedule on catching up. I think this delayed a whole sector of the industry by 2 months, so we'll just have to wait for the rest of the supply chain to ramp back up.

My wonderful KA1 also seems to be getting a big tired. Hope the new Kobo becomes reality soon.

My Aura One always ate up the battery rapidly, so I’m not aware of a change. It doesn’t leave the house, so it’s not a big deal. That said, if the new device is a Forma replacement, I’ll be looking for a closeout deal on the current Forma.

We're quite a few waiting for a KA1 launch replacement I think. Batteries are not quite good anymore.

Personally, having both, I much prefer the KA1 over the Forma.

It will be the premium device, we just don't know which format Kobo will go; Forma or KA1? I would think they will follow the Forma / Libra format but I still hope for a KA1 format with a 10" screen. Yeah I know, wishful thinking...
