What bothered me the most was the NC government ignoring the CDC's recommendation that unvaccinated people continue wearing masks in public, especially in sports/concert venues of mass gathering, or in enclosed spaces.

More than ready for the mask mandate to be done...in Ohio that's June 2nd. I know many retail places will want to continue it, but there will be push-back from shoppers. Many locally owned restaurants have already come out and said they are dropping the requirement. Those who want to continue to wear one are free to do so, of course.

My governor ended my state's mask mandate today as well. He basically said, go get vaccinated. I've been noticing more and more people not wearing them anyway, despite the statewide mandate.

Our indoor mask mandate and business capacity limits were lifted this morning, but businesses are still permitted to set their own requirements.

Did your NC government tell you that you can't wear a mask? How are they ignoring anything? If you want to wear a mask, do so.

The people who have chosen to go unvaccinated have to live with the consequences of their choice. Just like the people who have chosen to get vaccinated have to live with the consequences of their choice. Is your expectation that the government should continue mandating masks to protect those who have chosen not to get vaccinated?

At least the CDC recommended that unvaccinated people continue wearing masks. The NC announcement totally omitted mentioning this recommendation. That's what I meant to say.

All these recommendations and mandates are mostly political anyway, they have very little to do with protecting anyone's health. If the CDC is supposedly "following the science", what changed in the science between Wednesday and Thursday? And why would they say vaccinated people don't need masks or social distancing anywhere. Except if they get on a bus. Then they need a mask. Do you suddenly become infectious when you step onto a bus? Do you become non-infectious when you step off of the bus? Inquiring minds what to know the science behind this.

Frankly, this one seems like a no-brainer to me. When you’re on a bus, you’re in close and frequently prolonged contact with many other people in an atmosphere where the air isn’t refreshed. So when you step off the bus, you’re in fresh air, are able to maintain some distance, and no longer have prolonged exposure to specific individuals.

In the US, this no longer seems to be a problem. Unfortunately, vaccinations frequently go begging.

I'm sure they had been reviewing it for some time. The just didn't announce every step of their research along the way. This is a new disease and the experts have had to learn as they go along. As they get new information and as statistics are compiled over a longer time, new recommendations are released. There will probably be more changes as time goes on.

What bugs me about this current recommendation is that they are saying this will give people an incentive to get vaccinated. I don't agree. Nobody is going to be checking vaccine records at stores, sports events, or whatever. So anybody who doesn't want a vaccine will just take their mask off and go without. They won't care if it's recommended or not, just whether they can get away with it.

That is likely a difference between the USA and Canada. Here in BC as in most of Canada, we are still having issues with getting an adequate vaccine supply while just south of the border in Washington, they are having trouble getting arms to put the vaccine in.

Except they didn't say vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks inside because ventilation systems suddenly got better. Several months ago, studies started showing that the vaccines do a really good job of preventing people from getting COVID even if they are exposed to it. And the vaccines are also preventing the vaccinated from being carriers and spreading COVID to others. Neither of these findings change when you enter a crowded poorly ventilated bus. Not that I would ever want to do that anyway. I have always avoided crowded poorly ventilated spaces simply because they are terribly unappealing to me.

Unfortunately, some countries have really botched up their vaccine rollouts. India. Canada. And a couple others. I was not talking about those places. They will be in deep dodo for a long time.

Here in NJ the mask mandate is still in force. Fine by me. The Moderna vaccine, which my family got, is estimated to be about 95% effective. That still leaves a lot of people who might be vulnerable. Add in the folks who refuse to get the vaccine, and I would say we're still not out of the woods.

Don't forget that a mask primarily protects others, not the mask wearer himself.
