This is just not correct. For me, yes, e-ink is a better reading experience. But you just can’t say, 100% across the board, that this is true/correct for everyone. This could only be correct if every person was exactly the same, with the same exact vision, the same eyes, the same neurological makeup.

Which of course is not the case.

On the contrary - the ability to dim my phone/tablet is one of the huge benefits. I'd much prefer than than having a reading lamp on, or a "book light". Haven't tried the "lcd with lighting" - but I surely do NOT read on a bright phone or tablet screen. That would kill my eyes in a dark room.

Basically, you balance the light with the ambient light for most comfort. In total darkness, I use a nice dark dark green with a slightly brighter yellow font. Very comfortable for me.

And then there are those of us who cannot use a screen in total darkness at all, no matter how dim and what the colors are. I'm one of those. Not only LCD, but eink either. I must have some ambient light, otherwise my eyes will kill me. And yes, I've experimented with various dimmer apps and color combinations. Nothing helps. I need a light.

Ay, there's the rub. It seems rather evident that a one size fits all solution does not and most likely, will never exist but that doesn't seem to stop people from arguing that it should be possible.

One thing that I've noticed as I read more on my Kobo eReader is that, for me, eReaders don't work well for non fiction. I prefer the larger screen that my iPad pro gives me, especially with regard to the various non text information (pictures, graphs, etc...) that I find in the non fiction books that I read, but I also think that having more text on the screen makes it easier to understand the more complex information in non fictional works.

Of course, eReaders are easier in an environment where there is more glare on the screen.

I agree. I have a 7.8" Onyx which can read pdf in landscape, and I can zoom and pan easily, but I still prefer to convert pdf to epub when it's practical. I think 10" would be fine though. I read pdf no problem on a 10" tablet, except it makes my eyes bleed. Perhaps I should turn the brightness down J/K

I use reverse white-on-black with a deep orange comfort light turned as low as it will go. The letters are gold and the background is black. It's best on a Nook as that seems to have the most red comfort light.

I'm not sure I would use a comfort light pro (Kobo's term). I've been using my H2O for 6.5 years and I've never once thought I would like a comfort light pro.

Actually that's what I thought too. But since I got my first reader with warm light (Oasis 3), I've found I can't do without it any more. It makes a huge difference when you read in artificial light and in a relatively dim room (as I do for most of the autumn and winter period). Before experiencing it myself, I didn't get what the deal with it was and thought like you that I probably wouldn't use it.

In broad daylight I switch the comfort light off.

I've tried that combination, but I cannot read at all when the text is lighter than the background. I've never been able to use various dark/reverse modes on any device I own. Well, I can use them for photo editing and such, but not for reading.

I meant comfort light pro. I don't have that and I've never used such.

My next Kobo will have Comfort Light Pro. But that depends on when Kobo releases the new Reader and if I want to get it.
