Attached is Starbuck and Starbuck at Starbuck's.
Ah, Dirk. Speaking again as an appreciator of the male form....and I really liked Katee in Longmire, as long as I could abide watching it. (Incredibly stoopid errors about living in the West, Wyoming, etc. that just made it unwatchable.)

One thing that I find rather humourous is that your posting about being an appreciator of the male form has received no negative feedback.

In another Internet group I post in on and off, one male poster stated his appreciation for the female form using a quote from Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers. Evidently "No doubt a gentleman wart hog feels the same way about a lady wart hog—but, if so, both of us are very sincere." was proof that he was at the least misogynistic and at worst proven to be an abuser. At the very least, I suspect the poster who called him misogynistic was unaware of what the word means. A fine example of a dogpile.

I'm thinking particularly of Netflix. I find most of the shows...very sameish. Nothing stands out about most of them. The acting and scripts are formulaic. So yes, I would say they are generic, and yes, people like to watch them.

At the same time, those same viewers probably enjoy something a bit more distinctive, creative, original, better, and yes, less generic. For example, Stranger Things was a big hit. And I like Lucifer because of the main actor is so stand out and refreshing. The scripts are varying in quality, but it's the main actor that makes it above average.

It's the same with music, I think. It's hard to find non-generic music. The singers and songs sound similar, at least to me. But others like it. Yes, from my perspective at least, they do like generic stuff. Personally, it bores me to tears. The same with books.

It's the lightning in the bottle, as the movie-makers call it, and the reason computers cannot write good music or books.
Oh, I'm sure that quite a few of the same people might like something a bit more distinctive. My original point is that like with books, different people are looking for different things and the same person can be looking for some of this and some of that.

I know what you mean about music.

I couldn't imagine any adult (since I assume that is what all posters here are) who had never seen either series before, watching a few episodes of each preferring the original over the reboot (unless they were enjoying the original as camp).

I'm not especially a fan of either. I watched the original when it was new and I was under ten. I have fond memories. But then I caught a couple of episodes more recently. Like a rewatch of The Dukes of Hazzard, the nostalgia quickly fell away.

The remake, I watched for a few seasons before I drifted away. I just don't tend to care for long, episodic content. But it is clearly far superior to the show it was based on.

The Peabody Awards, the Emmys, Time magazine, the Television Critics Association, The New York Times, Rotten Tomatoes, Rolling Stone, IMDb and likely any other place that has a review of either series seem to concur.

But Dirk Benedict hated the relaunch. So there's that
By an odd coincidence, I saw the General Lee on a trailer yesterday morning when I was going to breakfast, complete with people with their phones out taking pictures. No idea if it was one of the originals, or if it was a replica that someone had made. Yea, Dukes of Hazard was never one of my favorites, but you couldn't have been a southern during the time period without watching at least one episode.

Of course, the original Battlestar G was camp, that was part of the fun of sitting in a dorm watching it with a group of college students. I have the DVD of the original series and will occasionally pull it out and watch an episode or two when I'm in the right mood. Good camp is actually hard to pull off. But hey, I like slap stick and Mel Brooks as well.

It's not nostalgia. It's just that the original BSG is better then NuBSG.

Impossible for you to know. Unless Young You can go back and unwatch the original when you first saw it and then watch both for the first time as an adult.

There's no shame in nostalgia clouding your judgement, it would be odder if it didn't. When you see/read something for the first time has a huge impact on how you're going to judge future projects based on that something.

I loved BSG as a kid. I never watched the remake because I loved BSG as a kid. That hasn't stopped me from rewatching parts of the original and realizing just how cheesy and awful it really was. Ben Cartwright in space dishing out fatherly advice?? C'mon.

Actually, I've been waiting for it. {shrug}. I mean, in today's world, gadzooks, to actually admit aloud that you like some other person's physical attributes is practically an invite to a prison sentence or worse. (smile)

I think--I hope--that people know I mean it in a admiring way. I mean, sports fans, after all, where would the species be, if we weren't attracted to each other in a reproductive way? Zoiks!

The original Battlestar Galactica wasn't intended to be camp. For that sort of thing, I prefer the first season of the follow-up series: Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. That was a show that knew exactly what it was.

Interestingly, in the second season of that series, Glen A Larson turned that into something Battlestar adjacent. It also lost most of what I liked. But hey, they kept Erin Gray.

I loved BRi25th Century. And yes, it was wild camp and to like it, you had to have a tolerance and liking for camp. AND YES, the 2nd season was lousy, but Erin was great.
