Honestly, they could have cast pretty much any female actor, in the (main) woman's role and that show would have still worked. She is eminently forgettable. The forensics chick and the demon are far more memorable.

Of course I'm aware. I'm acerbic.

Where on earth do people get the notion that the world should be populated entirely with fluffy-bunnies?

See for me, Lucifer is actually a standout show in spite of it's two leads. I can't stand either of them. But the rest of the cast picks up their slack.

My goodness, no remakes of TTM are necessary. It would be sacrilege! Their on screen chemistry was amazing. And the writing was so clever and snappy. Poor Johnny Depp, he's come down a peg or two lately.

It seems now viewers don't have the attention span to follow clever writing, so you need explosions to make it interesting. (How's that for a get-off-my-lawn comment?) I'm all for a good romp with space battles, lens flares, etc. But sometimes I want to see dialog and character development.

And sometimes, nothing but Laurel & Hardy will do. My grandsons, 8, 11, and the cerebral 13 year old, ask to watch some every time they are here. Going to introduce them to Groucho et al next week.

Them Thar Hills!

OMG, my grandfather owned a film company, in the early 60's-70's and he would have older films brought up from the storage vaults, and we'd all sit outside, on nice summer nights and display the film against the (whitewashed) wall of the "pump house" (the well housing) at the end of a very long, large patio. (We don't need no stinkin' screen!) I spent many happy hours laughing my young carcass off at TTH. What a classic.

TTM does not need remaking. Sacrilege! Not even some of the sequels, some of which (TTM goes Home) are less than wondrous. Nobody today can replace Powell and Loy, period. Yes, yes, that's a get-off-my-lawn, but I feel the same way about Casablanca, which captured the imagination of a country at a time when it was needed.

I mean, why not remake TPB, while we're at it? Widely considered the only perfect movie ever made? I'm sure we could get somebody to take Andre the Giant's role...

sheesh.

/rant.

So I mostly don't bother any more. I figure it's better to have pleasant memories of TV shows I used to think were great, than it is to repeatedly hit myself in the head with a "My god, how did I ever enjoy this garbage?" brick.

There's always been garbage on TV. I'll leave it up to others to decide for themselves whether that ratio has changed over the years. That discussion is a bit too "you kids get off my lawn" for my taste.
I am always up for watching Barney Miller episodes. The most realistic cop show ever made.

I tend to side with PJ and Hitch. The female lead, well, I can't remember the name of the actress or the character right now. I can only hear Lucifer calling her "Detective." She is about as...dare I say it...generic as they come.
Tom Ellis makes the show. But I acknowledge that the same schtick can get a bit trying to watch episode after episode, and he does play the character as a bit of a one-schtick pony. But I could say the same for William Shatner's Captain Kirk, and I love him too.

It's freaky, I was going to bring up Urkel for comparison!

In my book, if you're going to base a character on some sort of signature like that, you can be an Urkel, or you can be a Kirk, and if you want me to watch, you'd better be a Kirk.

If you're in between, you're a Kirkel. Or an Urk.

Yes, but dahlink...for eye candy, it's hard to beat him. (Ellis, not Shatner).

One good thing about older shows is if you remember episodes you didn't like, either because of the plot or because they didn't seem up to the usual quality of the show, you can skip those on a rewatch.

I still don’t understand why it’s either/or: watch generic crap (the crap is implied) or rewatch quality shows. Couldn’t someone watch whatever they think is worthwhile once, and then find something else to do? Are people being forced to watch television against their will? “You must watch something!”

Or you could turn it off. Cancel all the PayTV/Streaming subs and order more books. Any mix paper/ebook.
I probably won't live long enough to read all the decent PD free ebooks.
