Did I miss it or was there really no thread about this yet? I'm surprised as it's a feature that seems to be one of the most requested.

Any idea if this has started rolling out in U.S. yet? Last I read was that it was only available in India.

Never mind! I just did a sync and restart and now I'm seeing the option in Settings --> Device Options on my Kindle Voyage.

I saw talk about it in India, but I didn't have a clue it was available on my Voyage (after a restart and sync).

This is so "unKindle" that's it's kind of creepy. I'm turning this off before the world order completely collapses. It's either that or setting the Voyage down... and backing away from it... very, very slowly.

If you have a "special offer" Kindle, you don't get this option. I'm sure not paying $20 to be able to use it.

If you are referring to doodlydood's post, Amazon Canada does not sell "ad-supported" devices.

OTOH, I haven't seen hide nor hair of the series or cover items. Last weekend for the heck of it, I synced and restarted a PW4 5 times before getting bored with watching the restarting screen for nothing.

Those 'special offers' are a big part of why I don't buy a Kindle. They try to spin it like they are saving the customer money. But I can buy a comparable Kobo or Nook for the same price (or less!) and have no ads at all. Trying to pretend that one of the most successful companies in the world can't sell a device at similar cost to their competitors without serving ads just doesn't pass the smell test.

When Amazon first started with the Special Offers, they were a good deal. There were many specials offered, like buying a gift card and getting $10 extra, etc.

I don't know when they were changed to just ads, I've been ignoring them for a long time. I hardly see the sleep screen, so I really don't care what shows up there. We have 3 Kindles in the house, no way I'm paying to opt out.

My first Kindle had the dead authors as sleep screens, when the Emily Dickinson one showed up, I would wake the Kindle and put it to sleep again so she didn't stay on the screen. She looked like Skeletor, and was very creepy.
