A possible reason that it works on W10 is the error says IO Disk Error.

That would be a different DISK / OS (and-or Security software)

Remember Calibre is only designed for DIRECT Attached Drives. (No NAS or network Shares) . Bulk operations push things HARD.

Thanks for the reply. My problem is that apple sells machines with such pitifully small, non-upgradeable drives that It forces me to make use of a file server. I will have to see if I can free up enough space for my 75GB calibre library. Perhaps in the future you could remove the requirment for a local drive, given that everyone is trying to push all of our storage into the cloud?

I personally detest the trend of putting everything in the cloud, so no plans, sorry.

I understand completely. I also dislike it and try to avoid it whenever possible. That's why I run my own server that is isolated to the lan in my home. With 4 macs, 4 windows machine, 3 linux pcs, 2 raspberry pis and an assortment of tablets, I find it impractical to keep copies of files files on multiple machines. The minor inconvenience (such as making sure that I never leave a calibre instance running when I'm done using it) of having shared files is much easier to manage than constantly needing to sync local files between machines.

I suggest you maintain your library on a central powerful machine with calibre and consume it using the calibre content server on all your other devices/computers. That is your own personal cloud.

Consider using that lame system as a Remote Terminal (Remote Desktop connection/VNC) with the real Calibre hosted (self contained) on a decent PC.
