				Looking for something new

Looking for suggestions for a new e-reader. Have an ancient pocketbook pro that kicked the bucket. -6.5"+ screen (prefer larger) -warm backlight (read in the dark often) -would like buttons -good handling of pdfs I use calibre. I do not purchase any e-books from amazon. Never plan on connecting it to the internet / using any sort of utility other than reading books. Not interested in much else in terms of features. |

Probably buying a Kobo is the way to go.. I do not know if there is any serious alternative.

If you don't need to connect it to the internet, then everything really goes. E.g. the cheaper Pocketbook Lux models would be fine too.

You could see: Pocketbook Inkpad 3 Pro: 7.8" Pocketbook Inkpad 3: 7.8" Kobo Forma 8" Kobo Libra 7" They all are at 300 dpi and have warm light. Last edited by ps67; 03-21-2021 at 03:49 PM. |

The Kobo Libra and Formas would score for their screen size, warm light, and physical buttons. I don't read PDFs on my Libra, but I have heard that using KOReader (which I do use for my Libra) makes PDF-reading less unpleasant on 7-8inch devices.

Onyx next reddest light. Has all sizes. Is Android and feature rich. Best for handling pdf. Most expensive. Kobo next most orange light and has all sizes. Forma has buttons. Can install koreader for pdf. Probably the easiest to get. | |

To be honest, none of the Readers recommended will do for PDF. If you want a Pocketbook, go for the 10.3" Inkpad X. There are other 10.3" Readers. I would go with the Onyx Boox Note 3. https://onyxboox.com/boox_note3 |

There's also the Tolino versions of the Forma and Libra (Epos 2 and Vision 5). Main advantage of these (in my opinion) is built-in ADE (like in the PocketBooks). But if the OP is not going to use WiFi that feature is really not important.

And the Android version only really matters to some Apps. I have Android 4.x to 8.x on devices. None of the phones or tablets were ever upgradeable. Yet Likebook Mars was upgraded from 6.x to 8.1 in retail and DIY upgrade of some Likebooks to 8.1 is possible.
