I put the update file to usb-root, the update kindle button was still grayed out. I restarted my device and it updated itself to 5.12.4 again succesfully, so it seems like those binaries don't block updates. Also, I answered your a PM if you didn't notice. ![]() |

Bad news. Maybe, something KOA3 specific? Needs further investigation.

Surely you have thought about filling space so the OTA update file cannot fit?

These 3 will be hard to test... especially 5.12.1.1 and 5.11.1. If anybody has one of these 3 devices below or on the displayed firmware versions, please PM! It's 100% brick-safe, nothing bad will happen. ![]() ![]() |

I can generate images to any version from 5.3.0 to 5.13.3, it's just a matter of testing them. Since supporting every firmware in that range would take 16 images (which would involve a huge amount of testing), I decided to only support the latest firmwares for every device.
I don't see the reason why you wouldn't want to upgrade to a newer firmware, but if you can give me a good one then I don't mind testing and releasing ones for specific versions. I know that firmwares 5.12.x and above are immune to most OTA methods, but the image also supports 5.11.x so you don't have to give that up. Last edited by tryol; 03-22-2021 at 07:17 PM. |

Firmware 5.12 and greater are aggressively hostile to jailbreak. Kindles are getting worse about books on the device not showing and the firmware seems to be getting flakier in general. From my POV, anything beyond the latest 5.10.x is undesirable. I concede that if you only do a 5.10.x for KV that would lock out people with a KV already beyond that. I am not in a rush on the KV, so I might wait for the dust to settle or bite the bullet and try to do a serial port JB. Thank you for all your work. |

Later down the line if more people want this, I'll consider testing all the versions, but it's definitely not priority right now. |

I think the last 5.10 (works with update.bin.tmp.partial folder blocker), last 5.11 (works with /var/local/system/SKIP_UPDATE_CHECK file) then going straight to 5.13.3 and skipping 5.12 would be the best options to support.

Update:
Seems like KT1 and PW1 jailbreak kits won't make it in time for the thread lanuch. Thanks to SKK we managed to test them on multiple different iterations of the image, and it seems like there is something different from newer devices other than the location of their GOT and W/E memory pages. I'm planning to further test these before I start with versions between 5.8.x - 5.10.x. As for 5.11.1-5.13.3, we only need one version tested that's already queued up for later (today hopefully), so the new thread is imminent. ![]() |

FWIW, there'd possibly be a mild interest in a PW1 version because it's in a weird spot where the last FW version is not vulnerable to any JB, but vulnerable to the forced-downgrade-by-unplug method, which isn't terribly user-friendly (and as such, badly documented)
![]() Then again, it's the worst Kindle ever to grace the earth, so, meh ![]() |
