I think the positions are clear here. Time for everyone to drop it. Don’t keep reiterating what’s already been said, pro or con.

Personally, I think the DRM issue is irrelevant (so hopefully making this post acceptable). I, too, swear at publishers who screw up our ebooks in various ways. Some of their chosen fonts I find almost unreadable. I don't care whether it is possible to change this outside the reader or not, I should not have to fix things I buy to make them usable. Publishers need to learn that e-readers are also about accessibility, and blocking accessibility features is not a good thing.

It's interesting to me how with ebooks I always "fix" their css to conform to my rules about what's acceptable. With printed books I rarely am put off by odd fonts and formatting. The only one I can remember is T. H. White's The Once and Future King, where it looked like they'd used the printing plates too many times and the letters were worn down and missing bits here and there.

And since this forum can also be read there, such information is not particularly helpful - and that would be reason enough to reconsider this attitude. Thanks. BTW: It is certainly not particularly useful if providers in the EU are therefore instructed to block mobileread.com. Last edited by ottischwenk; 03-22-2021 at 05:16 AM. |

It seems to me that an approach that honors the spirit of the law is reasonable even if it doesn't necessarily conform to the letter of the law in each individual location. |

The discussion isn’t fruitful, IMO. Thread closed.
