Why is Kobo epub reader lacking features?

I understand why it is lacking some features of kepub reader, because it's using different reading software.

But as i understand both Pocketbook and Kobo use Adobe RMSDK for epubs, and Pocketbook has image zoom, rapid page turning, and choosing between adobe page numbering and "one page turn is one page" numbering, all three Kobo lacks, despite being much bigger company, so why is that? |

Because they use an older version of RMSDK. Why, is anybody's guess. Personally I think they want to keep the goodies for their proprietary format, to encourage people to buy from their store. Amazon has apparently adopted the same stance.

Thanks for answering, i suspected that they use older version of RMSDK, but i was not sure, my Booken from 2015 has rapid page turning, so RMSDK version Kobo use must be quite old.

I'm thinking the version RMSDK that Kobo is using may be equivalent to some version ADE 3.x. It seems to be newer then ADE 2.0.1.

Yeah, you may be right, i've recently seen somewhere, that people have problems getting borrowed books to work with newer versions of ADE, and 3.0 works fine.

However Amazon Kindle is the market leader and overall the Kobo has better features for reading, export annotations to PC, set series and collections from PC and customising.

I'll have to disagree about Kindle being the leader. In the US maybe. But overall, more ePub capable Readers are sold world wide.

I understand that, but amazon use different reading software, while Pocketbook and Kobo both use RMSDK for epubs.

I have the last version of ADE and I have never experienced any problem with it and Kobo for borrowed books.

As my country has no OverDrive libraries, and i always strip DRM from self bought books, i have no experience with ADE, apart from drm removal.

If you always strip DRM from books you buy, then you can convert them to kepub, which will enable several of the features you mention as lacking, like rapid page turn and better zoom in images.
