can you install KOReader without a Windows PC?
Can you install KOReader to a Forma without a PC ?
I have Android and Chromebook. I'm also looking for a version I don't need to add anything else to the Forma to run KOReader. Thank you |

Yes. Download the one click packages, and extract them to te Forma manually.

Cool, didn't know you could drag and drop them.
I see most people install KOReader with KMon/Nickle... I know I'm spelling them wrong. But can you just install KOReader on it's own ? I'd like to do as little messing around as possible. I just want the ability to read PDFs with cropped margins and formatting to remain in place after page turns. Many thanks ! |

Make sure you read the instructions including editing the Kobo eReader.conf file's file exclusion entry before you install the One Click Package. It's found under the [FeatureSettings] header. If you find [FeatureSettings], just add the second line under the header otherwise add both lines.
Code:
[FeatureSettings] ExcludeSyncFolders=(\\.(?!kobo|adobe).+|([^.][^/]*/)+\\..+) |

Thanks David.
KFMon/NickelMenu and KOReader all disappear after a firmware update right, you just have to reinstall? I might venture into doing this. Is NickelMenu or KFMon more stable, less space and more just in the background? ---Went to buy the Forma after calling and told they were in stock. Got to Best Buy, after a long drive, and there was one taped up box... Their reply...well, it should be ok. Don't think so. I didn't know the Canadian Kobo Store has free shipping, and will replace the device for a Year and cover all shipping ! Big Incentive to just do that. |

The OCP installs both, so you don't have to worry about much of anything.
(But they both have a negligible footprint, FWIW). |

Hi guys.
So I'll be installing these MANUALLY. I will have my PC the first time, but after that, when there's a firmware update I'll need to reinstall this stuff right? so I'll be on my Chromebook - which means I'll need to manually install them instead so I might as well do it the first time. So, manually doing it, are there instructions in the package how to manually do it? or just for the one click? If manually installing, can I choose KFMon or Nickel instead of both? If so, is one better, less prone to glitches, than the other? So.... if you need KFMon or Nickel in order to start KOReader... does this mean, the Kobo Wakes, I Start KFMon/Nickel, then KOReader, then click a PDF to view ??? That really sounds like a bit - but is it smoother than that? Little confused. |

Cool, so it's just an extra launcher that doesn't autostart and replace default nickel, and it only launches koreader.
I think I can deal with that <grin>. |
