![]() Thanks for the pointer to the ePub3-itizer plugin. I will go take a look. I am writing a book that I might want to translate. |

A big Thank you to KevinH, odamizu, BeckyEbook, Banjo, DNSB, Ashjuk and everyone else who helped in updating the Sigil manual.
I really appreciate the work you have put in and look forward to finding upgrading my knowledge of Sigil when I go through it. So on behalf of the Sigil community and myself another big thank you. ![]() ![]() |

Yes, I agree that ePub3 is the way forward for the User Guide.

I think I learnt far more about how Sigil works by getting involved than I would have done just by reading the guide. |

Yes! It was so nice to be able to contribute to Sigil in some small way — and to learn more about Sigil while doing it.

Thank you very much for this work!
I just come to comment on a couple of details that I think could improve the manual. First of all, each time the background color is defined, it is just as important to define the foreground color, because in color schemes with light text over dark background, the bg-text contrast is not enough for reading and may even be invisible (see the screenshots). Code:
pre.example { font-family: courier, sans-serif; font-size: 0.85em; margin-left: 2em; margin-bottom: 1.5em; ++ color: black; background-color: rgb (244, 244, 244); white-space: pre-wrap; } In any case, I reiterate my thanks and congratulations for your work. Regards. |

Thanks,
I can add the css stylesheet fix for the next release so something shows under a dark theme. What font were you using that you could not see the right arrow? I tried the manual in a number of readers and they all showed the right arrow using default fonts so no font embedding was thought to be needed. Users here could see it on Windows and macOS platforms. |

Like Kevin I tried to replicate this issue in various desktop readers, and the only one that did not display the arrows was ADE. I also noted that ADE did not handle the images very well either as you can see in the attached images. I will look for a thicker right indicator that is supported by ADE.
As for the images, it looks like they were poorly downsampled. What version of ADE is this? The images look okay on my old Sony Reader which uses a quite old ADE as its back end. |

Both the original arrow right and arrowdblright show up in the Adobe PDF Reference manual as being included and supported by Adobe / ADE. Since the right arrow appeared too thin but the new arrow is missing, I will change it to use arrowdblright instead.

Since both of these fixes will require a new release of the user-guide, I am going to convert it to a backwards compatible epub3, as was discussed earlier and update the repo as well.

It scales PNGs awfully, and Indexed PNGs even worse. GIFs and JPGs are fine (last I remember). It only happens in ADE, not in any RMDSK- or Readium-based readers (so actual devices/apps are fine). Last edited by Tex2002ans; 03-15-2021 at 03:07 PM. |

Just an old Nook Simple Touch (which I think uses ADE). Its great for epub testing precisely because of how fussy it is; if it work on this it usually works on all devices.
On the device the images work well, especially considering that they are only reference screenshots. PS: Specifically the Helvetica Neue font, but the problem occurs with all fonts on the device's system. Regards. Last edited by ebray187; 03-15-2021 at 03:46 PM. |
