Unhappy Major regression speed since koreader-kobo-v2020.08.1
Hello,
I have a major speed issue with koreader. My device is Kobo libra.
Here is the description :
If changing pages with full test, speed is ok, less than a second.
But if the next page include an image, not even a big photo, juste a small web image, the speed slow down. About 5-6 seconds.

I remembered that koreader was not so slow in the past. As I don't read comics, I didn't really notice it directly. But now there it became really unbearable to me, even for the few images that appear. So I decided to find out since when it appeared:

v2020.01 : OK
v2020.06 : OK
v2020.08 : OK
v2020.08.1 : not OK
v2021.01.1 : not OK
v2020.09 : not OK
And all latest releases : not OK (I download the latest nightly release about every month)

The bug seems to be appeared since v2020.08.1.

There have been a lot of new features since this release. Do you think it will be difficult to find the specific feature that caused this issue and fix it, (or disable it) ?
I hope we will not be forced to choose beetween speed and features.
For now, i decided to downgrade to v2020.08.
I am ready for testing on my device.

Join the tests at the tail end of https://github.com/koreader/koreader/issues/7340 .

OTOH, I don't recall anything that would have been Libra-specific in that time period, but it's an interesting data point nonetheless (especially since it's so narrow), I'll double-check .

The remedy is definitely *better* than the disease, and it's surgically applied only on Libras, so, no, not without manual code tweaks?

It's ugly and sad on a theoretical level, but effective on a practical one .

So, let me rephrase that: is there an actual reasoning behind the query?

@gilali, I suggest you try the current nightly version o KOReader and see how you get on with it as it may be fixed.

Thank you very much for the fix/patch/workaround or whaterever you want, because for me it's a real fix.
I was afraid to downgrade and loose all lastest features.

The workaround mentioned above was merged in 2021.03 (and is specific to a series of wonky NTX boards, so I have no idea what you would be looking for here with a KOA2).

The Kindle platform suffers from weird (read: inconsistent depending on what happens before) behavior re: document open speeds that have never really been looked into.

See if a no framework startup mode helps?

That said, PDF is hell, so it's not entirely unreasonable for some things to be slower, depending on the PDF complexity and your default settings.
