Epub rendering or CSS fix?

This is one of those I-don't-know-what-I-don't-know questions.

First, one of the patches I have enabled is: "Don't uppercase header/footer text and change page number text: yes" and it works like a charm as long as the original epub header/footer is in lower case.

Question: If the header/footer text in the original epub is already all upper case, is it possible to edit the CSS and force header/footer text to lower case? If so, how does one accomplish this? What is the header/footer referencing?

The title of the book in the metadata and the title of the chapters in the table of contents. It's not in css. You must manually change the title in the metadata for the book and the title for each chapter. Сan do this with a regular expression.

Thank you, Semwize. I'm not knowledgeable about regular expressions, but I can certainly accomplish the task manually. Unfortunately, I cannot understand why another epub, containing all uppercase chapter titles in the ToC and book itself, does indeed honor the patch of retaining lower case. It doesn't make sense.

Can see this epub? Because the patch does not convert headers to lowercase at all, the patch cancels uppercase.

Yes, that is the head-scratcher. The epub in question contains uppercase in both TOC and chapters yet the patch, for some reason, is being ignored. This occurs on both the Forma and Libra, each with firmware v4.26.16704 and associated patch. I've not seen this occur before which prompted my original post. Not a big deal but would like to figure out why the patch is being ignored in this case.

BTW, I recall something Patrick (geek1011) mentioned in the past. I believe the patch only prevents lowercase => upper case when the source is in lowercase. If it is already in uppercase, it stays in uppercase. I just do not know what "it" is, hence my original question.

Thank you, Semwize. After some searching through my older messages, I found the solution from geek1011's reply (below) that I had completely forgotten about. When I have time, I will edit the patch:

This is by design. Note the careful wording in the patch name: it only prevents it being uppercased; it doesn't change it to lowercase.

If you want everything in lowercase, change the ::trimmed to ::toLower in the replacement SymPLTs.

This is not a solution - you will get everything in lowercase: both the first letter of the title and the lowercase letters in the name, if there is such a thing. It's not pretty.

You may have misunderstood geek1011.
