Hello KevinH,

Here are the Book Browser and Manage Plugins chapters.

It would be good if you took special care in double-checking the Book Browser chapter to make sure I got everything right

Moving on to Find & Replace and Saved Searches ...

Edit: Made some minor editorial changes to both chapters just for clarity:
- the filenames are always correct in Book Browser, it is just that the Folders are virtual names.
- added information on plugins for Linux users in a tip

I have just now updated the user-guide in the first post of this thread. The latest version has a few faq additions, and has integrated in odamizu's Book Browser and Manage Plugins chapters.

See src_updated_20210307_01.epub

As far as I know, we just have two chapters "Find & Replace" and "Saved Searches" outstanding. They should be along within the upcoming week (hopefully) and we can then pass this along to BeckyEbook who volunteered to do some final polishing and fix some inconsistencies.

Is dark theme something external to Sigil as I don't see an option for that in Preferences?

I know this is not strictly related to the User Guide but one item that puzzles me slightly is that of the p option that appears when you click Format-Heading or the h* toolbar icon.

Surely <p></p> is a normal paragraph style and not a heading.

Just a thought but should it not therefore be an item on its own under Format rather than in the Heading section?

The dark mode depends on the theme set in the system. Additionally, only on Windows, this can be overridden by using the SIGIL_USES_DARK_MODE environment variable

If we run Sigil from the batch file and force environment variable

then even if we have a light mode in the system, the Sigil will be in a dark mode.


And the reverse situation:
If we write

set SIGIL_USES_DARK_MODE=0
so even in a dark system, the Sigil will be in light mode.

I will try to add in something.


On MacOS the user controls Dark Mode from their own System Preferences and switching can be done at any time or even automatically based on time of day.
Sigil on macOS even if launched before the Dark Mode change will automatically adapt on the fly.

On Windows, it checks to see if Dark or Light only when Sigil is launched. And as BeckyEbook said there is an environment variable override (which macOS does not have).

I think Linux is the same as Windows. On my Manjaro box it seems to detect the user's Desktop Dark theme automatically.

Does it use the same environment variable overrride?

If anyone knows, please let me know so that I can add this to the user-guide either under customizing the ui chapter or in the user interface chapter.

The reason you do not see a Dark mode setting in Sigil Preferences is because Sigil's Preferences for CV highlight colours will change automatically depending on Dark or Light Mode, as will Preview's background (but that can be overridden).

Exactly. It allows you to change from any Heading back to Normal without needing to hand edit tags.

@Ashjuk,

When you get a free moment, would you please generate two images of the default Sigil app showing the same interesting page from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" with a nice illustration showing in Preview. One in Window's Dark Mode and One in Windows normal. Then squeeze them down for me.

I would like to use them when adding Dark Theme support info to the User-guide showng the same image in both modes.
