But in this case, nothing is mentioned of a 7th gen Kindle including the Voyage which has not skipped a firmware update.

So we'll have to wait for this to be released. I think if no 7th gen Kindle gets it, 7th gen Kindles are frozen at 5/13/4.

But honestly I strongly suspect the 7th gen's days of getting firmware updates that don't directly affect Amazon connectivity are numbered.

5.13.4 came through later (delayed) after some folks had assumed it wasn't going to happen.

Release 5.13.5 has been removed from the Source Code Notice page. I guess the release is not imminent after all.

The Kindle Source Code Notice page is again showing firmware version 5.13.5. I noticed from there and also on the firmware download page that this release is available for the Kindle Voyage, but no other 7th generation devices.

So no update for the Paperwhite 3, at least so far.

Why does Amazon play this stupid game?

Kobo doesn't play these games. They release firmware for all the Readers. The only time they don't is a firmware release for a new model. Then the next release is for all models.

Amazon already did the no PW3 firmware game. They need to stop this.

I've just manually updated one of my Voyages from 5.13.4 to 5.13.5. Initial impression is that the unit seems to be a bit snappier/quicker in responding. YMMV.

Not all hardware is the same and cannot take the same updates. This has been a huge issues from the beginning of computers. We can fuse all we want but the facts is that at some point the updates become too much for limitations of hardware. And to be very honest, that is also by design so people will upgrade their hardware and keep buying new stuff. I am now retired but for way more years than I want to admit it I had to chase the ever ending need to update software and upgrade hardware. It is what it is, and companies do what they have to do to keep money coming in.

Up until not too long ago, Kindles that got the new firmware all got it at the same time and the same version. Amazon has skipped one update for the PW3 and may be skipping another unless they are EOLing the PW3 which we don't know yet.

This is a game Amazon is playing by not releasing the new firmware for the PW3 and not telling users what's going on.

If you are doing "software development" and testing is so hard, you are likely doing something wrong, in general. Thinking of testing as separate from software development is the problem.
