Kobo AU and GB have it, but not US.

It looks like her books have been revamped recently (well, since the last time I looked at them, not sure how recently that is). The covers have all changed and I'm almost certain there was an ebook omnibus of the Merlin trilogy, but that seems to have disappeared.

Also Amazon GB and AU. But it's much easier to set up a different country for Kobo that Amazon, though both are certainly possible.

I liked it. I suspect the series will get better for a while, so the next 8 added to my TBR from the freebie omnibus I picked up a while back.

Next up: The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart. I know I read this many years ago in paper. I shall enjoy the re-read.

[Curiously, this isn't a response to the recent posts about the book. It was the random pick from calibre's "Pick a random book" function.]

Is there a book about Calibre? Or a well detailed FAQ online?

The pick a random book function is just a menu item. I just switch to the view of all my unread books, and pick a random one. (If it picks one that's part of a series, I read the next unread one in that series. that happened with The Crystal Cave - it actually turned up The Prince and the Pilgrim, but I need to re-read the earlier books first.

Oh no! Is it truly "random"? Or does Calibre spy on you, dig into the online forums you visit, check-in with Google and Amazon for coordination, phone home to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and all the other trackers, collect information from the covid-19 vaccine microchip database ... and THEN recommend you a "random" book?

About 1/3 through the Saki Megapack - Munro really was like a wicked Wodehouse, or at least a Plum with bite. Lots of laugh out loud cleverness with language, but with a measured mordancy that PGW never employed. I haven't got to his two novels yet, but his short stories are already a highlight of that part of my 2021 reading challenge

My one star review of Breakfast Pizza Murder (Papa Pacelli's Pizzeria #17), by Patti Benning:-

Spoiler:
One of the rare misfires by the author for this series. I haven't had much luck for my short books that I've been complementing the behemoths I've undertaken.

The trouble with this book is that the writer kept keeping it on introduction mode. People are always being introduced, there is repetition of ideas, the pacing suffering as a result.

The previous entry in the series got 5 stars from me. This book was very disappointing all things considered. I don't see myself ditching the series but I also am buoyed by the probable improvement in the next installment.

Nearly 3/4 done with the Saki megapack now. The Unbearable Bassington was an interesting read, full of his trademark wit and with the sharpness less hidden. But When William Came is awful. I expected a tediously jingoistic call to arms, but did not expect rabid antisemitism to be so openly expressed. Reading lengthy descriptions of the Jews as eager collaborators with the new German overlords was particularly distasteful given how that relationship actually turned out just a couple of decades after Munro wrote this. Racing through to get back to more of his short stories. Them I shall remember with much more fondness.

Finished Spellbreaker by Charlie N. Holmberg. This wasn't a bad read just a little slow with too much romance for my taste. A few surprises at the end but it does leave us hanging. Writing is competent although there are noticeable inconsistencies and sudden conveniences. Rated C [3 stars].

Next, Aftershocks by Marko Kloos, a KU selection.
