Have not tested edge cases yet. For Kindle, I'm just importing new books off my PW so I don't have to bother sorting out which older version of Kindle-for-PC software I need in order for the DRM and format conversion tools to work. For ebooks from ADE-based stores (like Google Play): Has anyone confirmed which version of ADE reader you need to have installed locally, to work with this new version of the DRM tools? Last time I bought an ADE book, I still had to use ADE v. 2.0. That version is so old and harder to find downloads, I started keeping an archived copy of the installer. The current ADE version is 4.5.11, the concern is at some point it may not be possible to get the older versions that work with our DRM tools any longer. With ADE 2.0.1, you won't be able to download a book with the hardened DRM. With ADE 3 and up, you won't know until you can't DeDRM it.

I agree 100% that ADE 2.0.1 is the version you should install. I have ADE 2.0.1 installed with Windows 10. I've not had a problem with the new hardened DRM.

So what's the deal with the 'hardened DRM', do we have a write-up or definitive thread on that somewhere? There's no way to DeDRM those?

No way to remove the DRM from the hardened DRM. But I don't think it's that much of an issue. If sites start forcing it on us, many people will stop buying from them.

If you are running Catalina or Big Sur, yes. Anything else it's fine. I'm running High Sierra on a 2017 MacBook Pro and it's fine; I did have Mojave briefly and I think it was still fine. Our new 27" iMac has Catalina; I won't be running ADE 2.0 on that. I'm told it's possible to run old versions via a virtual machine. |

I understand what the ACS version is. The RMSDK relates to the ADE version?? And if so, what RMSDK does ADE 2.01 and ADE 4.x have? And what does Fulfill vs Sideload Re-fulfill mean? Thank you for any enlightenment

Fulfill is download to your computer for reading there. Sideload Re-fulfill would be copying the downloaded file from your computer to another authorized device (say an ereader or tabler) for reading there.
