Purity in Death is the fifteenth in the In Death series by JD Robb. It's $1.99 today as part of the US Kindle Daily Deal, matched at Kobo US.

Spoiler:
Quote:
Lieutenant Eve Dallas must take down a group of terrorists who use a computer virus to kill in this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series.

Louie Cogburn had spent three days holed up in his apartment, staring at his computer screen. His pounding headache was unbearable—like spikes drilling into his brain. And it was getting worse. Finally, when someone knocked at his door, Louie picked up a baseball bat, opened the door, and started swinging…

The first cop on the scene fired his stunner twice and Louie died instantly. Detective Eve Dallas has taken over the investigation, but there’s nothing to explain the man’s sudden rage or death. The only clue is a bizarre message left on his computer screen: Absolute Purity Achieved.

And when a second man dies under nearly identical circumstances, Dallas starts racking her brain for answers and for courage to face the impossible…that this might be a computer virus able to spread from machine to man…

Felony and Mayhem Press have gone slightly crazy with a whole bunch of titles at $1.99 at Kindle US. Many of these have been on sale before, and so I'm just going to do ones I don't recognize, or titles where several in a series are on sale, but this isn't going to be a perfect filter. A number of the books on sale in this post are also still on sale. The link below will pull them all, with a few strays...

Elizabeth Daly/Henry Gamadge
  • Murders in Volume 2, #3
  • The House without the Door, #4
  • Nothing Can Rescue Me, #5
  • Any Shape or Form, #9
  • Night Walk, #12
  • The Book of the Crime, #16
Caroline Graham/Chief Inspector Barnaby
  • Written in Blood, #4
  • Murder at Madingley Grange, non-series
Ngaio Marsh/Inspector Roderick Alleyn
  • Death in Ecstasy, #4
  • Death of a Fool, #19
  • Money in the Morgue (incomplete book finished by Stella Duffy)
SS Van Dine/Philo Vance (PD in some countries)
  • The Scarab Murder Case, #5
  • The Casino Murder Case, #8
Patricia Moyes/Henry and Emmy Tibbett (one of my really favorite series)
  • Dead Men Don't Ski, #1
  • The Sunken Sailor, #2
  • Death on the Agenda, #3
  • Murder À La Mode, #4
L.R. Wright/Karl Alberg
  • The Suspect, #1
  • Sleep While I Sing, #2
Zoë Sharp/Charlie Fox
  • Road Kill, #5
L.C. Tyler/The Ethelred and Elsie Mysteries
  • The Herring-Seller's Apprentice, #1
There are also a few titles in mostly the same series on sale for $2.99 each if you page further along.

Felony and Mayhem Press titles are also discountable at Kobo US, although not always on sale as much as at Kindle. I haven't checked any of these - if you want to check, you'll need to look for yourself...

If you belong to Amazon Prime, and haven't gotten your free Amazon First Reads title for February yet, I'll put in a recommendation for The Deadly Mystery of the Missing Diamonds, the first in the Dizzy Heights series by T E Kinsey. Yeah, only two days left to grab it free, but WTH...

I haven't read Missing Diamonds yet, but I had an ARC not too long ago of The Fatal Flying Affair, the most recent title in Kinsey's other series, the Lady Hardcastle series. And I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed that one. It was pretty cozy, but had a whole lot of nice historical detail too, and just was a lot of fun. And based on that, I've actually had my eye on this coming book for a while and just noticed I could get it free this month. Woo-hoo! Just FYI, apparently Missing Diamonds shares some characters with Kinsey's Lady Hardcastle series...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0841YPH5N/
Kindle UK (don't know if Kindle UK has the same Prime/Amazon First thing ???): https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0841YPH5N/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Missing diamonds. Mysterious deaths. And all that jazz.

London, 1925. With their band the Dizzy Heights, jazz musicians Ivor ‘Skins’ Maloney and Bartholomew ‘Barty’ Dunn are used to improvising as they play the Charleston for flappers and toffs, but things are about to take a surprising turn.

Superintendent Sunderland has had word that a deserter who stole a fortune in diamonds as he fled the war is a member of the Aristippus private members’ club in Mayfair—where the Dizzy Heights have a residency. And the thief is planning to steal a hoard of jewels hidden there under the cover of a dance contest.

As mutual pal Lady Hardcastle has suggested, Skins and Dunn are perfectly placed to be Sunderland’s eyes and ears—and Skins’s wife Ellie soon lends a hand with a bit of light snooping. But the stakes change dramatically when a mysterious death at the club brings a sinister note to the investigation.

With the dance contest fast approaching, the trio must solve the mystery of the missing diamonds, unmask the murderer, and prevent more deadly crimes—all without missing a beat.

I can vouch for it. I've just finished it, and it was fun, although I felt the reaction to the murder was a little less than I'd have expected.

And yes, Amazon UK has the same Kindle First offer for Prime members.

Sorry I'm posting late, my computer's fan gave up the ghost this morning, and although I'm nicely backed up, it has taken me a while to get up and running again.

And, of course, this would be the day that the UK Big Deal is the first 7 books in Martin Walker's awesome Bruno series for £0.99 each.

Anyway, here's the post, even though there are only a few late-night hours left for this in the UK. (I wish the US Kindle store would do an occasional Big Deal like this...)

What looks to be a prequel short story in MC Beaton's Agatha Raisin series is free right now at Kindle and Kobo US.

Agatha's First Case: An Agatha Raisin Mystery, by M. C. Beaton
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XTW2A5E
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/agatha-s-first-case

Spoiler:
Quote:
At age twenty six, Agatha Raisin has already come a long way. She has clawed her way up since leaving the Birmingham slum where she was born. She's lost her Birmingham accent, run away from her drunken husband, and found a job at a public relations office as a secretary. Then her boss asks Agatha to go to the home of Brian Devese to tell him that he is soon going to be arrested for the murder of his wife and that the agency no longer wants to represent him.

Brian, impressed with the pugnacious Agatha, asks her to handle PR for him and even offers her an office and tells her she can hire a staff. Certainly the best thing Agatha can do for her first client is to find out who really murdered his wife and clear his name. And with her wits and gumption, Agatha sets out to do just that.

New York Times bestseller M. C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin—now the star of a hit show on Acorn TV and public television—is beloved by millions and this brand new short story take us back to where it all began with Agatha's first case.

Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman is the first in the Lady Montfort series by Tessa Arlen. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Per SYKM, it was a finalist for the 2015 Agatha Award for Best Historical Novel. I haven't read any books in this series, but have read and enjoyed both of Arlen's later Poppy Redfern books.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L0IACB8
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00L0IACB8
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/dea...able-gentleman

Spoiler:
Quote:
Lady Montfort has been planning her annual summer costume ball for months, and with scrupulous care. Pulling together the food, flowers and a thousand other details for one of the most significant social occasions of the year is her happily accepted responsibility. But when her husband's degenerate nephew is found murdered, it's more than the ball that is ruined. In fact, Lady Montfort fears that the official police enquiry, driven by petty snobbery and class prejudice, is pointing towards her son as a potential suspect.

Taking matters into her own hands, the rather over-imaginative countess enlists the help of her pragmatic housekeeper, Mrs. Jackson, to investigate the case, track down the women that vanished the night of the murder, and clear her son's name. As the two women search for a runaway housemaid and a headstrong young woman, they unearth the hidden lives of Lady Montfort's close friends, servants and family and discover the identity of a murderer hiding in plain sight.

In this enchanting debut sure to appeal to fans of Downton Abbey, Tessa Arlen draws readers into a world exclusively enjoyed by the rich, privileged classes and suffered by the men and women who serve them. Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman is an elegant mystery filled with intriguing characters and fascinating descriptions of Edwardian life—a superb treat for those who love British novels.
