A smartphone already seems to be the perfect device for listening to audio books.

I don't think I can justify spending $300+ on another ereader when my 32gb Forma still works perfectly. I think I'll probably wait until we get a color model, but only time will tell.
After seeing the specs of the new 7.8" color Pocketbook, you can forget color. In color mode, it's 100DPI with low resolution. Plus the colors look flat and washed out. I'd rather a tablet if I need a larger screen with color.

Pocketbook is using the eInk Triton tech.
The eInk company is releasing some new tech for colour eInk displays on smaller devices this year, the big one probably ACeP, which was previously only available on much larger displays (to be used for signage and advertising, presumably). They managed to scale it down to the usual sizes you see in the eReader market.
I think this is an early prototype: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1BAYfzCzu4

It's kinda exciting to see how much interesting stuff could be happening with eInk devices in the next years. Having an ACeP screen in a new Kobo device would make it a killer application for comic books.

The funny thing about people insisting USB-C is the future is that the USB ports on my new laptop are actually USB 3.0 - you know, the standard that uses the original rectangular USB plugs.

I love it because it means I do not have to replace any of my accessories.

My new laptop has two Thunderbolt 3/4 ports which use the USB-C connector, a USB-C port and three USB 3.2 ports using the USB-A connector.

Oddly, the always on (aka charging) USB 3 port does not like my Kobo ereaders which was the same on my old laptop. Should I give Lenovo bonus points for consistency?

Could a release be close? Komplett in Norway are selling off ex-display Clara and Forma Units, and Argos in the UK seems to be running down a limited stock of Forma....

I wouldn't necessarily hold my breath?

We've seen hints of a new Kindle series being in advanced production stages much earlier than this new Kobo, and those haven't even been announced at all yet (I think?).

When I read such posts, I can't understand: either Kobo is completely bad with logistics, or demand greatly exceeds supply (which again does not speak in favor of Kobo's management) …

Think that's down to the nature of and demand for the product; stock is shifted around while sporadic fabrication runs are organised. In one listing for the Forma at Argos, it says 'last few remaining'.

I just had a look at the Forma at Argos and I do not see it showing "last few remaining".

Or we could be living in a pandemic where all major tech companies struggle with production and covering demand
