Does size matter?

Ok Ok Okay! Now that we all got that out of the way on to a serious question. I love Calibre. I use it for my too many book obsession and I'm just starting to organize all my knitting/crocheting patterns... along with those I have have some videos too.
It got me thinking if it was possible to catalog too much? I mean my pattern folder is about 85 GB. My books currently is at 8 GB but that's mostly because I never brought in my total library when my Mac died a couple of years ago and out of need went windows. I learned my lesson. Next computer I'll be going back to Apple but to get what I want/need I need to save some money.
Back to question... As I get ready to move my patterns etc into Calibre to better manage them... is there a size limit or anything that should make me pause this move? It will be a very intensive move as I'll be cleaning up tags and duplication as I make this shift so want to be circumspect before I get too far in if this is a bad idea.

If anyone has tips to import/clean/organize I'm open to all suggestions. I'm not the techiest but I can often follow directions with ease as I do have some tech background. Anyhow, back to folder clean out. Thanks in advance.

Don't worry about filesize limits.

For the amount of books: The actual database limit is somewhere upwards a couple million (billion?) records, though the functional limit is based more on your computer's hard drive space and memory. Also you may run into issues if you run 32-bit Calibre and have a lot of books.

My Media library (lots of video and audio clips) is 796GB and about 9,000 books.

There are people who use calibre to manage their embroidery patterns. And I know one guy who uses calibre to organise his 3D printer models and STL files - not sure he's made anything useful, apart from some cupboard door knobs.

Of course size matters. If it's not large enough, try the blue pill.

If you don't mind that the structure is intended for books, Calibre can be used as a catalog for any type of file.

Well now I have something to shoot for 800GB... Kidding. Obsession might be my middle name.

So glad I'm not the only one that sees the genius of Calibre to manage more than books.

Now, I assume that I am using the 64bit version since it doesn't ask me or offer a choice. I can't see where I can see what version is installed.

Speaking of 3d printers... so want one. Cabinet handles? hmm, pet collars, puppy toys, bowls etc etc etc. doll toys, accessories. It's too bad I can't afford to get one or to create but such is the way of things. I'll be happy to a well organized pattern library and books. did I mention books turned to mp3's No pandemic will bore me! kill me maybe but bore me NEVER!

ooookay, I might be a bit barmy from no contact since April 2020.

Calibre update notification takes you to the Windows OS (bit size) you have installed and are using. If you picked the wrong (less efficient) for your initial install, that is what you will be offered.
You can still install the other without pain

I think you can also install x86 and x64 versions at the same time, though they will share all the same settings.

I would like to see screenshots or know what custom columns to add, since my lady also has several patterns.
Thanks

Check. My main library (366K books, metadata.db is ~850MB) is too large for 32-bit Calibre to handle. Calibre uses about 3GB of RAM with that library open.

Well, the biggest obstacle you'll face with Calibre is the actual organisation of entries. If you got a really big collection, I recommend setting up multiple libraries and use tags to help organise the content.

Calibre could just use numbers like Project Gutenberg and it would still work just fine as a Librarian.
Folk who have troubles with Calibre, insist on using the OS and not the App to find books.
You can tag books 6 ways from Sunday, to make just about FIND work.

The only weak spot, is FULL series [index] support when many series are involved in a single book (Unlimited Series-like columns leads to DB bloat and should be avoided). Blame the Publisher
