Battle Ground was book #17. Long series!!!! I read them a few years ago.

I've read about 40 Maigret's now, skipping a dozen or so that my libraries don't have in ebook form. I have to admire Simenon's knack for avoiding repetition book after book. Best example so far IMO is Maigret Enjoys Himself, where Maigret is on leave and so not involved when a sensational case arises. Instead he follows the case through detailed but incomplete newspaper accounts, gradually zeroing in on the key questions and figuring out the answers with no access to the resources he would normally have at his disposal. It's a brilliant change of perspective for the series.

After spending some time discussing some QAnonsense online, I have a sudden urge to reread Heinlein’s Double Star.

I've taken a bit of a break from the series, but my next will be Maigret's Revolver; I've skipped a few titles as well that just didn't seem interesting. Simenon truly varied the characters among books, never seeming stock/cardboard at all. I'm listening to the audio, which while a bit of an extravagance at $10 a book, are outstandingly narrated!

That's good to hear - a few of the ones I've missed are available in audio so when I get back into walking this spring I might mix those in with my Wodehouse listens...

I'm still reading all three of these and enjoying all of them immensely. I project I will slowly work through the Lispector all year. Each story is such a gut punch that I would not want to read a big pile in a row. They deserve to be savored.

I'm reading the Robert Jackson Bennett titles as part of one of my goals for the year to read books that my wife wants me to read for discussion or things that have come into the house as "hers." It has been a very pleasant experience so far!

So far, there are 17 books and a couple short story anthologies.
Gotcha, I may just do that. I remember Bob the talking skull and the jist of it.

A group of people on a Discord group I'm in are reading the Dark Tower series. It's tempting me for a re-read, even though I haven't finished my re-read of The Stand yet.
Hm.
Will I be able to resist? Probably not.

My 4 star review of Hercule Poirot: The Complete Short Stories by Agatha Christie:-

Spoiler:
My review is bound to be boring. Have I lost you already? Anyway, if I had read the book recently for the first time, then I'd have set the rating at 5 stars. But who's counting?

The brain behind this series is long dead. If only the life span of us humans was 200 or 300 years. Imagine Agatha Christie now in her prime, trying to write (and easily succeeding) stories that enchant the mind and ensnare the senses.

This is the second best collection of short stories I've ever read. What's the first? Stay tuned.

Just started reading Tracks: One Women's Journey Across 1,700 Miles of Australian Outback. So far, so good, except that I can tell that I'm going to have to have my Aussie neighbour on speed-dial for some of the vocabulary. It's full of Australian slang, some of which I haven't run across before.
