I still get the cloudflare error on multiple stories when I try to update 10 stories at a time. 2 stories went ok but 8 still gave me the cloudflare error. I use the newest test version.

It's possible your IP got flagged by Cloudflare, either due to accidentally hammering the site or because your current IP was previously used by a bad actor.

If this is the case, it ought to clear itself up in two weeks (which is a pain, I know) or if you can change your IP address via rebooting your modem (depends on your ISP, but leaving it off for a few minutes may help your chances of getting cycled a new IP).

So if I wait 2 weeks until I do anymore from FFN it should have "forgotten" my IP and it works like it used to again?

Hopefully - assuming that FFNet hasn't set a firewall rule for your country or something to put it on a higher restriction level.

Yes, any metadata entry can be used. Just be aware that the replace_metadata etc is also applied before the entry is used in the conditional and recursive loops are skipped. So if you have a category line that depends on a characters conditional, if there are characters lines that depend on category conditionals, results may not be 100% what you expect.

Yes, if you search this thread, or see the google group/mailing list or github issues, this has been going on for a few weeks and affects everyone.

FFF v3.29 and newer already have all the same cloudflare code.

We have no way of knowing if things will get better or worse with this. If you manually set slow_down_sleep_time in your personal.ini, you may want to review it, since the default value for ffnet has been raised considerably.

ah, sorry for the misinformation - Im not sure where I got the idea that Cloudflare had been updated in FFF. Just going to chalk it up to the old brain fog.

I haven't changed the slow_down_sleep_time, but I still get the error. I'll wait for 14 days like I said earlier and then report back.

I haven't change any of my personal.ini settings, but should I? I updated this a fic this morning, no problem, this afternoon. No go. I really wish fanfiction.net would stop messing things up for us!

I just tested on a random fic using the latest beta - getting a challenge error now, though nothing comes up in browser. I did an update of a pretty bulky fic yesterday though (it went through), so it might be possible my IP got flagged—unfortunately currently physically unable to reset the modem to check.

Googling the Cloudflare IUAM possibility error brings up a few bug reports from a (legally dubious, so no links) project where the response was "it's a site issue, use another one."

The IUAM error (which I'm not getting) seems related to the under-attack mode being enabled again, but I'm not seeing any evidence of it being used in the browser (no browser check, and the specific cookies related to the mode aren't present).

It could be possible IUAM's enabled only for some countries/IP ranges, or perhaps something in the way FFF/Cloudscraper works managed to trip a firewall rule. Or even a misconfiguration - not like the ffnet admins seem to have any idea what they're doing.

Fun thing to do: go to Twitter, search for @fictionpress, and sort by latest.

A new question: Is there a way to take a list of URLs and just mark the books associated with them?

My example: having a list of scraped URLs (ffnet/ao3 subscription pages) in order to select the marked books then use bulk metadata edit on a "subscribed?" column.

I was able to accomplish my goal by setting all the columns to "new only," adding the change to custom_columns_settings, and then running the URLs through a metadata update, but that's honestly an awful way to accomplish it and wouldn't work for non-customs.

If not currently an option at all: would it be feasible enough to be worth opening a github issue about? It's low-priority obviously, but I could see it having some utility.

Ok, so just tried to update again before shutting down for the night and it worked! Clearly someone over at ff.net doesn't know what they are doing. First attempt was around 4:30pm MST and then just now at 7:55pm and suddenly it works.

Can confirm as well. Fictionpress's twitter feed they've been doing some work.

I was able to update one a few minutes ago, too. That one had failed twice today (at 9am and again at around 6:30pm) with the unsupported cloudflare v2 captcha error.

Looking at Twitter their own apps and web services weren't working for some folks today, so who knows what they managed to mess up before they fixed it. It seems like every time something on the FFN site goes down, they shift the site to under attack mode.

I've pretty much given up on trying to understand it and just save the email notifications in a folder to try them again in 10 or 12 hours.

I don't know a way to do that. Nor am I interested in adding it to FFF.

I mean, it's possible to write code that takes a list of URLs--or other identifiers--and marks books that have them. I wonder if Import List or some other plugin can't do it already?
