A firmware update wipes out the jailbreak, but step 8 is supposed to allow you to recover. I do not know the steps to do that. |

KUAL and most othet add-ons need to be reinstalled every time you update. Just restart the device twice and reinstall KUAL. Alternately, you can still do the diags downgrade again. |

Ok I did install hotfox previously . so either I can reinstall kual and stay on 5.13.4, or do all the steps over again and downgrade? Thanks. I'll probably try in a few days once I'm finished with the book I'm reading in case something goes awry.

You only need to downgrade if you want to stay on older firmware. You lose the new series grouping feature but it's easier to block OTA updates on 5.11.x and older (install KUAL Helper+ add-on and enable Block OTA updates menu option). Preventing updates is also safer for JB as we don't know if/when a new firmware completely defeats JB+hotfix. Again, you'd need to reinstall pretty much everything that was installed via MRPI: KUAL, Python, Screensaver, etc. |

@KrautHolg: Possibly because you have very old copies of... everything installed.
(I mean, that MRPI version is *ancient* already; but the actual issue probably stems from an old, old copy of the ScreenSavers or Fonts hack). |

Trying to jailbreak pw4
I recently bought a Paperwhite (10th generation) Waterproof s/n G000 PP13 **** **** (it came with firmware 5.12.4). I followed steps 1 to 6 sucessfully (installed FW 5.10.1.3 Factory) but when I copied main-htmlviewer.tar.gz file to the top level of the visible USB storage and typed installHtml in the search bar nothing changed (no rebooting nor jailbreak). I am on Windows 7 64 and extracted the files using 7-zip.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

jailbreaking pw4
[QUOTE=ilovejedd;4085568]You're missing the semi-colon in front. That's important.
Thank you very much ilovejedd!!!! ![]() I put the semi-colon in front of it and it worked like a charm. |

Hi guys,
After reading this thread in December, I ordered an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2018) 32GB WiFi IPX 8 - Black from Eglobalcentral (excellent prices but the customer service sucks). My model PQ94WIF, serial G000T6 came with FW 5.12.4. I followed step by step the instructions by ilovejedd and now I'm the happy owner of a JB Kindle with FW 5.10.1.3. In Step 10, I put all the Update_*_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3_koa_kt3_koa2_pw4_k t4.bin from Python 2.7 & Python 3.9, ScreenSavers Hack, Fonts Hack, USBNetwork Hack into the /mrpackages folder. Also, I unpacked with 7-Zip the GNU Awk Installer, Helper, KUAL+, BatteryStatus files into /extensions folder. Before entering ;log mrpi in the searchbar, I put the latest version of KOReader in the root folder (dict and tessdata files in the respective folders). Like NiLuJe indicated, everything was installed in the correct order! Thanks, NiLuje and all the guys that made it possible, in special to ilovejedd for the detailed guide, thank you. Can I say that I love ilovejedd? ![]() ![]() |

Thank you to all who have made this possible, I really appreciate your efforts which help combat the unethical actions of Amazon. I have just jailbroken my kindle (running fw 5.10.1.3-pw4) and would like to make sure that:
1. Pressing "prevent OTA updates" in kual Helper prevents updates under all circumstances including if I restart the kindle or connect to any wifi, and that it will continue to do so in the future if i stay on my current fw. 2. Registering my jailbroken kindle will not compromise the jailbreak or the prevention of the OTA updates- will amazon know that my kindle is jailbroken-will there be consequences for this? If possible I would also like to know if there is a better way; to create new folders and manipulate and move files into them, than using KOreader (bascially I am looking for KOreaders file managing interface without launching KOreader). Thank you |
