Oddly enough, I had trouble getting them to take my tonsils out until I was 21. (I saw the pathology report afterward. Since I was terrified of being under general anesthesia, if I could have convinced them to take out my uterus at the same time, I'd have jumped at the opportunity. I think I knew even then that I was likely to adopt, and I certainly wouldn't have missed all the trouble it's given me since then.

I really wonder what She was thinking, sometimes!

"Ahh, I see you're booked in for an operation that requires a general anaesthetic. Whilst you're under, is there any other work you'd like done - here's a form with all the options. Please note, we can only do a maximum of three at a time"

Maybe I should have asked them to cut out that 150 lb tumor of fat that I have while they were removing my gall bladder.

Now, you jest, but I did have them take out and rebuild my breasts (cancer), remove my uterus (cancer) and do a tummy-tuck, and pull a few bits out of my intestines (cancer) all at one go. Oncologists were there, plastic surgeons were there, they all had one shot while they had me up on the rack, and then they wrapped me up like a mummy and let me alone to heal.

No chemo, no radiation, just cut, rearrange things as necessary, sew me up and send me home.

That's what I thought when I came up with the idea. They taped most of the surgery so I could watch it later. It was cool.

oh my god you are insane. i had a cyst removed once (under local anesthetic, although i did beg for general, because i'm a big baby) and at the end the surgeon wanted to show me what he removed, and i clapped my hand over my eyes and shouted "no don't show me i don't want to see take it away !!!!" i'm sure he respected me less after that but i really don't care.

on the other hand, i saved the tooth that i had pulled. it's in my magic box.

Y'all gals have it easier with uteruses vs. prostates. Taking out a prostate is much more ... ahem ... iffy.

You're no fun. Back at university, I used to put Soroity girls under the table when giving blood by asking to watch it come out... Then I'd get an old battle-axe med-tech with no sense of humor at all..... (I was really annoyed that after I had a bone tumor removed at age 17, they wouldn't let me see it after the path report. And the pathologist wa my uncle! No sense of whimsy at all!)

So do it already! And whilst you're waiting to be seen, put heat pads on the sore area (works wonders for my neck and shoulders when they go tense and painful)

I tend to freak out nurses who haven't done much in the way of doing blood tests by watching. They seem a lot more worried by the fact that I don't look away when they suggest it than I've ever been by needles going into my vein.
