Really? They keep sending me mail to talk with all my friends who are in the military, have been in the military, are rretired from the military, used to be married to a military member or retiree, are married to a member, ore are step children of members. They don't say anything about not being affiliated in some way. I'm sure they would be shilling me to recruit my neighbors if they were taking non-affiliated types.

Yes it is. No longer commissioned officers only now. It is open to any enlisted now too. Of course, direct family members of USAA members are welcome to. That is how I use them, my Dad was in the Navy. Also, all my kids are members too.

From the web site:

Who is eligible?:
  • Active-duty officers and enlisted personnel.
  • Children whose eligible parents have or had a USAA auto or property insurance product.1
  • National Guard and Selected Reserve officers and enlisted personnel.
  • Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
  • Former military personnel:
    • Retired officers and enlisted personnel.
    • Former officers and enlisted personnel who separated from the military on or after January 1, 1996.

They even have a sense of humor. I once backed out of my drive into my neighbor's car. When giving the information over the phone, the adjuster first apologized for asking some nitwit questions, because he had to , then asked if I'd made any statements about the accident. When I replied that I had, saying, "Oh shit!" he about cracked up. Then he asked if my neighbor had made any statements, and I replied, "Oh, well..." Didn't skip a beat and went on tot he next question, which was applicable.
I like my insurance company really. It's just the idiots that take the initial call I could do without.

When I told the adjuster the questions I had been asked, he laughed his ass off.

That kind of damage is frequent here, so insurance companies are used to the fact. And what helps is that most neighbors would have the same damages too.
I went by the Ford collision center today since it is by Wal-Mart and I needed to refill my pain meds and to get some saltines and stuff for placement next to the sick bed.

Anyway, there were other cars there where the entire roof was pushed in and all the windows broken. The car rental place has no cars ... they were cleaned out this morning, and the body shops estimate that they will be booked up for several weeks.

They did a verbal estimate for me, so that I could at least give some information to GMAC when I spoke to the adjuster. It will be several thousand to repair, but less than the cost of a new Lincoln MKX with less than 2000 miles on it.

I told the adjuster that it would be a few weeks before anything could be done, but I had wanted to report the claim in a timely fashion.

I also dropped "Einstein", the giant, goofy stray dog that was dumped here the other day, to the vet so they could check him out, give him shots, have him neutered if necessary.

You people would have laughed yourselves sick to see me trying to get him into the back of the car. Me, fever probably about 103, wrist still splinted, trying to lift a struggling 60 pound "puppy" into the back of my pockmarked car and then having him jump out and run around several times before I finally got him secured and got behind the wheel.

I named him Einstein because ... we'll he's a complete idiot. I wish I could keep him, the girls LOVE him, and were howling their heads off as I drove him away. But, I don't see how that's going to work ... not with the lawsuit over the number of animals I already have.

A friend of mine has USAA. He has never been in, neither of his folks were in. I have USAA and AM ex Army so I knew all of the above. I was quite astonished that he had it as he was born with a severe handicap. I aksed and he said it was recommended it, called and signed up... so *shrug* beats me!

I would just like to say I hate, loathe and detest menstrual migraines.

Thankfully, the sod has gone now.

Apologies if that was more than anyone wanted to know

My migraines pretty much went away after they trashed my uterus. Had I known that was going to happen, I would have had the damn thing taken out when I was ten.

I'm still having problems convincing them they want to remove mine - apparently I might still want children... (I'm 39 this year, I think I might have known by now if I did...)

Riiight .... they pulled that crap on me too (you know, the whole "we can take the tumor out and save your reproductive ability" ... blah, blah, blah). As I explained to them, any children that had the misfortune to have me as a mother would probably be dead of neglect or abuse before they reached age one. So, they should just take the uterus, and anything else they found lying around inside me that I didn't positively need to live, OUT and have done with it.

As mentioned, had I known how much my quality of life would improve without the stupid organ, I would have had them take it out cancer or no cancer. I would have made their lives a complete hell until they took it out (out out OUT).

Never regretted it, and never missed the freaking thing. In my opinion, it was a worthless few pounds of tissue that I never used and never would use. I seriously do wish that having it out early would have been an option. You know .... like a two for one tonsils and uterus removal special.
