Gen10 Kid's with Kids+: Where's the free content?
I bought a Kindle Kid's edition for someone for Christmas.
It's supposed to come with free content. I want my kid to be able to choose their own books. I activated the Kids+ subscription but most books seem to not be included in Kids+. Worse, they can click and buy anything and rack up a bill. How do I help them to find books included with the subscription and how do I stop access to my credit card? It's so baffling. edit: I think we have to start the kid's mode. This prevents access to the credit card but then there's no access to manually transferred books on the device. The only thing I can think of is to use a prepaid card to create a new amazon account for the child. Then forget about the subscription and send everything either via usb or via the amazon email address. Last edited by jago25_98; 12-27-2020 at 07:53 AM. |

The kid's editions and modes are only good for parental approved Amazon sales.
Blocks THOUSANDS of public domain classics and books from other stores. They need to fix it so parent / guardian can approve non-Amazon content. Till then, do not use Kid's mode or buy a kid's edition Kindle. Exploitive crippleware. |

My grandchildren simply have Kindles with no wifi password. Problem solved. Put it on the parent's account or use gift voucher to have an account with no payment method, which can be done at registration if there is a gift voucher even of 1$.
Download via PC for USB transfer (sideload), which everyone should do anyway. Do not rely on Whispernet (adds DRM to DRM free titles) or Cloud. Make backups. |

Beware also. I had a kids fire with 1 year of content. Which they tie to the device in the bundle. Got charged twice for renewals even after cancelling and after getting it in writing that cancel had been applied.
Seems you can only cancel that deal from the device. Web site will say no actrive subscriptions but it lies. So as othere have said. Just sideload and use parental controls to block all purchases and all access to social media. It's then quite childproof. |

Do you recommend a program or method that can automatically sync books over from a device to the kindle when it's plugged in? That way I can send them books that they ask for.

I don't sync.
There was a point with a Palm PDA and a PC. Not, IMO, for ebooks. I manage them with Calibre. I can easily remember a phrase on the last page I read and type that into search on a different ereader / phone / tablet. That's faster than using Sync which needs a cloud service and compatible apps/ereaders from one vendor. A Kobo, Kindle and 3rd party apps on my phone and Tablet CAN'T sync. With Calibre I can quickly see what books are on which device/app. Also then easy to backup. |

Do not setup a kids Kindle on a parents account. That means parents are limited in what they can buy.

Personally, as a parent, the only time I told one of my children that they shouldn't read something was when I wanted to make sure that they read it. I always figured that if they *could* read it, then they should be allowed to. http://www.unshelved.com/2013-10-31 Shari |

I take it that JSWolf means a Kindle that's pre-crippled for Kids by Amazon, not a regular Kindle bought for a child.
Solution is to just buy a regular Kindle, as you suggest, shalym. |

So if you have any books connected to your account that you don't want your kids reading, then connecting to your account is not a good idea. |
