All's I did was put the Kindle in airplane mode and leave it there (I sideload every book from Calibre). Apparently the Kindle downloads a group of ads from the internet every now and then. But if you're in airplane mode it can't do that. So it seems to give up and say "Fine, I'll just go without ads then!" once it runs out of ads in its queue. Problem solved. And a few other potential problems as well (like automatic upgrades). You do lose out on syncing and X-Ray and maybe a few other things. But these are all things that I personally could not care less about. People that use these features can't stay in airplane mode all the time, and they will thus be stuck with the ads unless they pay up to Amazon.

There's no "need" for them with Kindle collections either if you want to be pedantic about it However a proper directory structure makes sense to me and therefore makes it much much easier for me to find the next book I want to read. I do like the Kobo series implementation though (from what I remember of it, it has been a while since I last owned one).

I think none of the Kindle's can be shutdown(except the very first). I jailbreak my Kindle, because I can choose to shut it down, when i dont use it. |

I was having the same train of througts on why to jailbreak - What I summarised bases on all inputs - Removal of ads - Add fonts - Add scrensavers - Use of Koreader - It also take CBZ file instead u need to get the KCC conversion for comics - Better directory management - Also some talks on transfer the books/content without computer. Feel free to add if anything is missing. |

If you are buying a Kindle now to jailbreak, chances are you'll get a Kindle the current firmware that cannot currently be jailbroken. So don't buy a new Kindle in hopes to jailbreak it. You'll be rather disappointed. Last edited by JSWolf; 01-25-2021 at 03:57 PM. |

As far as I'm aware, currently shipping PW4s are still on 5.12.4 which is jailbreakable.

Maybe a month or two from now, it'll be riskier.

But the problem is you have a choice between a possible jailbreakable PW4 or an Oasis with a much nicer screen. Either way you lose out. |
