From that I was able to determine that the cause of the problem is a bug in the Kindle Previewer. It does not work properly if the TEMP folder on your system includes a "#" character in the path. You will need to change your system configuration in order to make it function properly.

That error is most likely due to a failure of Kindle Previewer process. The plugin does not currently handle that properly, leading to the above error message. I will fix it so that a better error message is produced in the next plugin release.

I am not going to be able to help with determining the actual reason for the failure of the Kindle Previewer on your system. My experience with Linux and Wine is very limited.

Perhaps it is failing to launch Wine. Is it included on the path?

The Kindle Previewer does not have a Linux version so the assumption is being made that you have it installed using Wine to allow running a Windows program under Linux.

I mean is wine installed such that you can invoke it just by typing "wine".

From the log it found the Kindle Previewer 3.50.0 in your wine installation. That seems to be correct. But there may be a problem with the wine command itself. What command line did you use to install the Kindle Previewer?

Could you also run the command below from a terminal. It is similar to the command that the plugin tries to execute. But replace both occurrences of "USERNAME" with your username before. It assumes that you installed Kindle Previewer at the default location that was suggested by the installer. It should output a short documentation of the Kindle Previewer command line.

How did you install Calibre? The plugin will most likely not work if you are running it from a container such as Flatpak, Snap or AppImage. You can use the installer from the Calibre web site or a deb/rpm package from your Linux distribution.

Forget using Calibre from a Linux repository. 9 times out of 10 it won't work and the 10th time is maybe a no go as well. ALWAYS download Calibre from the official website.

Indeed it does. I assume whoever was building Kindle Previewer at Amazon forgot to change the minimum macOS version when building the application bundle for 3.49.
