I wish I didn't upgrade my kindle last month thinking there wouldn't be a way to jailbreak 5.13.3

I'd like some advice/assistance please.
I'm trying to Jailbreak my Kindle Paperwhite 4 (the water-resistant one). It's a 32 GB model, without mobile connectivity capability. I've jailbreaked three Kindles before, and all went well. I'm pretty good at following instructions. This time things are not working as expected. I've tried four times now, with the same result each time. I've re-downloaded all files and checked MD5s again. The device is new from Amazon (UK) bought just before Christmas. When it arrived it was running firmware v5.13.3. Operations performed on a Windows 10 PC. The Kindle has never been connected to the Internet. This is what I've done: Factory Reset Checked Device Info: Serial Number: G001 6503 **** **** (Obfuscated. Will reveal if significant) Firmware Version: Kindle 5.10.1.3 (3372830002) (Note the firmware now shows 5.10.1.3 due to my previous jailbreak attempts) I've then followed the instructions form page 1 religiously, checking MD5 checksums all the way. I've recorded all steps and filenames etc. and can post them if someone thinks I've probably messed up a step. Everything went as described in the instructions, except at step 8. I copied "Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.16.N_install.bin" to root, and did a safe eject & disconnect. Immediately after disconnect, and the Kindle returns to its home page, (before I do an Update your Kindle), I get a large message box that says: -------------------------------- Update Error An invalid update file has been loaded on your device. Please go to www.amazon.com/devicesupport to access the Kindle Software Update page or to contact Kindle Customer Service for assistance. CLOSE -------------------------------- Does anyone have any ideas? Lots of thanks in advance. |

@narny: Which color is it?
And, are you sure it's not actually G001 6S? |

Sorry, you're quite right: G001 6S03
It's described as "Sage", a pale, pastel green |

Thanks, I'll update KindleTools, but updated packages will take a while, as the hard-drive on the buildbox died, so I'm currently in the process of restoring everything

From an old post, I was supposed to sell my Kindle, but the buyer decided not to buy anymore.
I had already jailbreaked my Kindle, and before selling I had installed the official 5.13.3 firnware, knowing that version 5.13.4 does not allow jailbreaking. This morning I wanted to jailbreak again, I install the DIAG.BIN, the restart works fine, but to update to 5.10.1.3 I have an error message ERROR UPDATE: 4. What can I do to continue the jailbreak? Thank you very much for your help. |

Verify the checksum of the firmware you're trying to install (I use this: https://portableapps.com/apps/utilit...icode-portable) both before copying to the PW4 as well as after on the Kindle copy itself. Make sure to safely disconnect afterwards. It's possible a bad cable or USB port, or unsafe disconnect is causing corruption. Also, just in case there are database incompatibilities, I'd upgrade to OTA 5.13.3 first, deregister, factory reset then start over with the JB process. *Note: You can install any PW4 firmware while in diags mode (both factory and customer/production/OTA). |

Hey there, thank you so much for the guide!
I'm on firmware 5.13.3 and I heavily rely on the Dark Mode toggle so I'm unsure on which firmware to choose on step 9: Quote:
If I decide to stick to my original firmware (5.13.3) would I still need to reinstall 5.13.3 again on step 9? Or can I just stay on this "factory" version I installed per the guide? Thanks! |

It's recommended to install regular customer firmware after JB. Even 5.13.4 is okay as long as you're already jailbroken before updating. |

I just reinstalled 5.13.3 successfully with MRPI and KUAL working aaand… I no longer have the quick Dark Mode toggle lol. I was wondering if there's any extra step to do to somehow protect myself against auto updating while connected to Wi-Fi? I'm on Airplane Mode at the moment. |
