I cannot get the devmodeon working.

I have a Mini. Wifi is on and I am connected and I can search the shop. The search for "devmodeon" returns 0 hits (as expected). But nothing changes in the Beta Features or Device Information menus.

Does it work on the Mini at all? The firmware on mine is at 3.19.5761, in case that matters.

@sadowski https://pgaskin.net/KoboStuff/kobofirmware.html Download the latest firmware for the Glo. NOT the Glo HD, the Glo. Sideload it to your Mini, that's what I did. Then try it again.

Yeah, devmodeon will not work in firmware 3.19. I think it was introduced in the early 4.xx firmwares. It could be possible to enable Telnet access with other means, but it is a whole other level compared to just typing "devmodeon" in the search bar.
As @Elektron said, the Glo firmware should work on your Mini with absolutely no problem.

As @Elektron said, the Glo firmware should work on your Mini with absolutely no problem.

No, developers mode is in all firmware version. But, there was no Developer options page until somewhere in the 4.x firmware.

@sadowski: There is no response to using "devmodeon". You type it in and the firmware acts on it without anything else. It will turn on logging, telnet and other things (which is shorthand for "I don't remember what else). If you connect the device to the PC, you will see syslog files in the .kobo directory.

Thanks to all three!

I just tried to telnet into the Mini but it still refuses connections (after I activated developers mode). The IP address works. I can ping it. But telnet keeps saying "Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused".

As there is no way with the 3.19 firmware to verify that developers mode is activated, I guess I have to upgrade to firmware 4 to see what is happening.

Yes, I think the best option is to upgrade to fw 4.25. Also recommend NiLuJe's stuff

If turning developer mode on via search doesn't work, you can do it in the config file. Add the following lines:

Code:

[DeveloperSettings]
EnableDebugServices=true

From memory, the using devmodeon will add this, but, it has been a while since I did that. The above has been in the config file for all my devices for a very long time. Plus other lines depending on the firmware.

Yes! This enables telnet. Thus, the devmodeon trick seems not to work in 3.19.

Added some important info in the main post. Older Kobo users (like Mini users), could you report what the

Code:

uname -a

command outputs for you? I've added a warning that you should take the armhf version if this command outputs "armhf", otherwise the binaries may not work.
But maybe I'm dumb classifying these processor architectures, because after reading on the Web that armv7=armhf
But still... why would Alpine Linux provide armv7 AND armhf minirootfs?

@NiMa: Kobo has (mostly) always been using hardfloat, you don't have to worry about that.
