That's one way to look at it... I hope that is the case because if they underestimated the amount of units sold then that would mean the PRS700 has several adepts which would mean increased attention to it from Sony's part which would mean shorter periods of time between firmware updates which would mean.... AN ARMY OF FLYING MONKEYS!! no, wait.. I mean more functionality for the 700

Hi all, I see there are a whole lot of Sony PRS-700 users here!
I have a comment and suggestion. The other day I went to have a look at the reviews for the PRS-700 on Amazon.com, and there are only a few (and more than a thousand for the Kindle )! Like under 40 or something, and a large majority of those 'reviews' are by TROLLS!
My suggestion is, for the good and continued support etc. of the PRS-700 please go and leave a review, (if you have an Amazon.com account).
Thanks .

That's really funny imagery! Picturing a massive troll under a tree delicately handling a kindle, then yelling "HARK who dare cross my bridge??!!"

Fairy tales. Trolls live under bridges and steal/eat small children who cross during the night.

"Something from under that bridge grabbed that billy goat. Trolls live under bridges. Do you follow me Pinky?"

"What do we do now Brain?"

"Flee in terror. Yes, I think that's the logical course."

I see now, thanks .
I wasn't talking about THOSE trolls though, and therfore didn't imagine Alphapheemail was either! I kind of thought that Alphapheemail meant that the 700 owners were afraid to leave reviews on Amazon.com because of attacks by Kindle owners, (since after all that is what I was talking about)?

Me too. I would have bought the Sony 700 in a second if it had as good a screen as the Kindle. (I need notetaking so the 505 is out)

To tell you the truth, I prefer the screen of the 700 over the brighter screen off e.g. the 505 or a real paper book. I got mine yesterday and find it extremly relaxing reading this screen with not that much contrast.

It's a little like setting a camcorder from dynamic to cine mode. In dynamic (like 505 or real books) the colours are very bright and the contrast is very high. It even sometimes hurts my eyes or is more exhausting looking at it for a longer time.

The "cine mode" ( like the 700) doesn't have these bright colours, extrem contrast and I personaly find it much more comfortable to read. I would not swap for a brighter display. I read yesterday 5 hours in a row and it didn'T make my eyes tiered or giving me a headache. If I read that long in a "real" book I'm much more exhausted.

For me the display is just perfect. The rest of course too. Great gadget.

ha! I guess I got caught up in my imagery! What do you mean by trolls, bc like jbruce explained; they are fairytale monsters ...this is the troll from the billy goat story

I am curious on your definition of a troll.

I would think most PRS 700 owners don't write the reviews there - because they don't shop there (at least for their eReading stuff). Whereas Kindle owners don't really have a choice.

Quote:
I'm surprised that an author tried to pass it off as her own cleverness.
"There is no new thing under the sun." - Ecclesiastes (and, probably not the first to say it)

I was just thinking though. The price drop on the 700 could also be due to a combination of two "complaints" I've seen from users here and there. (1) No alternate cases available for the 700, (2) and it doesn't come with a wall-charger.

I mean besides all the previous explanations - I think dropping the price $50 - might make people feel more comfortable purchasing the wall-charger (around $30). Kind of like Kindle owners buying a case (because the Kindle already has the wall-charger).

Cheers,
J
