@BetterRed - thank you anyway for your trouble.
I've decided I will live with the 32bit version for now, maybe do the suggested troubleshooting at a later date. The rest of my system is working well enough, so not so sure I have a major problem with my setup. I do not use Calibre on a daily basis, and the other stuff, yes. So thanks everyone, but for now, I am giving up.

Given that 64-bit Calibre is not working, you could have a major problem.
