Frozen Libra/not responding

I was uploading books on my Libra from iPad Pro and when disconnecting, the screen froze to the “connected and charging” screen. I held the power button for 10 seconds as mentioned on the website and now it’s a blank screen with the white light flashing (just above the buttons on the face of the device). When I hold the power button for 10 seconds the flashing light goes away. when I hold it again, the screen kind of blinks like it wants to power up, but then goes blank again and white light flashes. Kobo says to leave it on charge for 1h, which I did and it is still not responding. They are doing maintenance so their phone lines aren’t available.

Is it dead? What happened ? What can I do?

I think that my only option left is the hard reset which id really like to avoid since I’ll be losing everything on my device.

Mine did that quite a while ago after loading books from Calibre and I finally ended up doing a hard reset and lost everything. It was many months before I had the courage to put more than a few books on it. It hasn’t happened again, but I hold my breath every time I sideload a book. I’ll be interested in seeing if you can find a different solution.

Thank you. I ended up having to do the hard reset as well. And lost my 400+ books. So heart broken. So many hours of work put into building that library. I wish there was another solution but I tried absolutely everything and it was the only solution left.

Back up on a laptop and use Calibre to manage. MacOS, Windows or Linux.

While it's possible to use iOS and Android, both are a total pain for anything other than consumption.

Once you've set up Calibre, it would take a matter of minutes to sideload all books back onto the reader, and it would automatically sort them into series and collections. Resetting your reader is then just an annoyance. You should always keep a copy of your books on a hard drive locally and not rely on any store to keep them forever, so you'll have them to sideload again.

If there's a book that's incorrectly formatted, that could cause your issues. I would suggest loading books back onto your reader in smaller batches until you find which one might be causing the problem.

Use the Kobo Utilities plugin to automatically backup your database and use the Reading List plugin to mark a custom column to show which eBooks on your Libra.

If you ever have to restore your eBooks, do not plug in the Libra until you've created a new library copying the format of the current library and copy all the eBooks that were on your Libra to the new library. Because if you plug in your Libra before doing this, the Reading List plugin will mark them as not on your Libra and you'll not be able to transfer them all back.

Doing things this way, you are able to restore if anything like this happens again.

When did the Modify ePub plugin add a database backup feature? Or are you thinking of davidfor's Kobo Utilities plugin?
