Regarding visual problems, I do not use Alreader. I use Alreader Pro X. I highly reccommend you use Alreader Pro X. The interface is better, it's much simpler to use, less problems with e-ink.

Also goldendict works better with it.

Edit: I've looked for Alreader Pro X, but it's hard to find. Weird. I have an apk specifically for e-ink. Works great. But I cannot find it on the web. Maybe I can upload it somewhere.

Maybe I was unclear. What I meant was that I've installed both goldendict and aard2 and added dictionaries to them. They both work fine in other readers. It's just that Neoreader doesn't detect that they're installed when pressing the 3rd party dictionary button after a long press on a word. It complains that no dictionaries apps are found (it should find goldendict at least, I don't know if aard2 is supported by Neoreader), and that I should not freeze the dictionary apps (I haven't done this manually, and don't really know what it entails).

What's the difference between stardict and .bgl? Where can I find the latter?

AFAIK neoreader doesn't work with external dictionary apps.

For goldendict just Google it.

It should work since the 3.0 update. However, I get a message urging me to "first install 3rd party dictionary apps", which means the installed dictionaries (goldendict and aard2) simply aren't recognized by neoreader for some reason.

I'll make do with Koreader and Alreader Pro X/E-ink - they both seem very competent. Thanks again for the link!

That Russian site seems like a goldmine. I've already bought goldendict and some reader apps on Google Play, but I was just thinking about how I could transfer them to the Hisense A5 Pro when it arrives (as it lacks Google Play); I'll just download the apk:s from there

As for the dictionaries, I'll keep looking. The ones I have right now for goldendict are pretty good; I just find the formatting a bit lacking. The definitions are supposed to be in normal style, while the examples should be in italics, and so on, but these details tend to get lost. It also doesn't mark the stress in Russian words (from screenshots it seems like it marks the stressed vowel by highlighting it in red -- at least on the computer version --, which obviously gets lost in translation on a BW screen).

I'll keep experimenting! So far I like this reader. I love the extra space a bigger screen brings with it - and having margins like in a real book makes for pleasant reading!
