Just finished Daniel Abrahams' Long Price Quartet. It was very good. Not sure where I am heading next....

And on the whole I did. I found the main character a bit implausible in his actions/behaviour, but an interesting start to a series, but with a good story arc of its own.

Next a read a random pick from the TBR: Quofum by Alan Dean Foster.

Which was very disappointing. Very thin characters, and dull action. A reveal at the end that's only interesting if you've read his Flinx series.

Next up: Lightspeed Magazine #3. Bought way back in May 2011!

Yep. But the group just does 3-4 chapters a week so I do other reading between. Just started a re-read of Jack Dawkins by Charlton Daines with intent to follow it with A Christmas With the Dodger.

Then closer to Christmas I'll get into the ghost stories and read Dickens' A Christmas Carol followed by A Christmas Tale by Austin Crawley (which just went on sale for anyone who likes a seriously creepy Christmas ghost story).

well, reading the next book in the A Very Short Introduction series, Anxiety. So far, it's written better and much more for the layman than any of the previous ones I've plowed through.

Good and original, but the good wasn't original, and the original wasn't good. 3/5

Next up was Damage by Feix Francis. A recent purchase. Absolutely splendid. The previous two books I read were good for going to sleep. This one kept me awake.

It may be to a "formula" - competent man solves problem in racing while handling personal difficulties - but it works for me. 5/5

And now a random pick from my TBR: A freebie I picked up in 2016, Shadow Sight by E. J. Stevens. Not very promising so far, but I'll give it a bit longer.

A very enjoyable, very informative look at the periodic table, but probably the thing I liked best was the way the stories told remind readers that while "Science" may (arguably) be pure, "scientists", being people, are anything but.
I've finished this now and also enjoyed it - thanks for recommending!

I guess that's why it's only $987. Oh, plus $3.99 shipping.

Oh, I read those as they originally came out. They truly earned their spots on my Contact Poison shelf, if for no other reason than the post-obstacle course scene at the hotel in the first book.

Abandoned at around 40% through. It wasn't the supernatural element, it was the plotting and characters. Simply unbelievable and (imo) not very well written.
1/5

Next up: Free Non-fiction 2011 from Baen Books. Another freebie, a collection of non-fiction articles that were at Baen.com.
