Moving to New computer
I am moving my Micro$oft Windowz life over to a new PC.
My Old PC was 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate edition My new PC is a fresh clean install copy of 64-bit Windows 10 Professional edition My old PC has Calibre installed... what is the easiest way to migrate my Calibre settings to the new PC? Can I backup/Restore some directory/file that contains the Calibre settings? |

To export everything in calibre - library and settings: click the "Library" button->Export/import all calibre data
It should let you export everything to, say, a thumb drive. Then, when calibre is installed on your new PC, go to the same menu item and import everything. |

What about any Calibre program settings itself... like the various menu bars and everything setup from the main menu option for "Preferences"?
What about saved "bulk-edit" search templates? What about plug-ins? What about _settings_ for the plug-ins? |

If you want to just copy the folders over, settings are in the configuration folder. It's usually in User/AppData/Roaming. Just copy the entire folder named "calibre" and paste to the same location on your new PC. |

<daydream#1-of-simple-life>
Old PC = Click "preferences" -> click "export settings" -> wait for things to export New PC = Click "prefences" --> click "import settings" -> wait for things to import ...plugins redownloaded (or last version binaries included in export) ...etc etc et al everything between the orbit of the Sun and the orbit of Pluto (will always be a planet to me) ...nicely packaged in a tar.gz/zip compressed file </daydream#1-of-simple-life> <daydream#2-of-an-even-way-simple-life> (picture the voice of that guy from the movie trailers) "imagine a world where: ...calibre was a containerized portable package file ...or maybe a self contained virtualized app (where you could take your own 'snapshot' before you muck everything up with a 'great idea') ...Where you copied one/two/three files to you usb drive when you wanted to move your entire calibre experience with you" </daydream#2-of-an-even-way-simple-life> I did that once. I used Cameyo to virtualize the app in a container. It worked super duper schmancy-fancy! Then there was a Calibre update. |

Occasionally I've used network to copy stuff over, but not often. And as I have Windows Pro on most of my laptops now, Remote Desktop is an easy way to transfer stuff too. |

Or just do a restore from the daily (or at worst weekly) backup you take of your PC

I don't make any backups of my PCs. All my important stuff is in Dropbox and that's all the backup I generally need. I also have backups of my files on external drives, but they get updated once a month or so.
