Thinking about a Poke 2 or 3
I'm a Kindle Paperwhite user (who doesn't use the Kindle store) who's trying to decide between a Kobo Libra H2O and a Poke 2 or 3. I know the differences in the Poke 2 & 3 and am leaning towards either of those but have a few questions.
1. I'm assuming that it's not waterproof (not a huge deal but would have been nice). 2. Does it have the magnetic cover wake feature? If so, can you turn it off in software? My Paperwhite (now without a cover) will turn on if my glasses case (which has a magnet) touches it the right way which is annoying and unfortunately I can't turn it off in software. 3. Can you sideload your own apk apps? I wouldn't exactly trust their Google Play app or sideload store but could very easily export the apk for the apps that I want off my phone. Thanks! 2. yes, has magnet cover feature. 3. yes, you can sideload apps. I just download apks from the net, but you can activate the playstore, though you might need to mess around a bit. Disadvantages compared to Kindle are lower battery life, and also contrast maybe not quite as good? But it's okay. Also Poke has nice orange light. It's a good reader. Recommended. |

Can you disable the magnet cover feature via software? I don't use cases and it's annoying that my glasses case and my tablet case both have magnets and have turned on my Kindle. Unfortunately you can't turn off the magnet cover feature on the Kindle.

If you uncheck that function and then put your device to sleep, opening and closing the magnetic cover will not wake the device up. So I imagine that another magnetic device coming in contact with it would not wake it up either. I would also guess that the Poke model would have this same ability as the Nova Pro and the Note Pro models. |

The sleep cover auto on-off can also be disabled on the kobo models.

What does it mean that the Poke 3 has analog and digital audio support, while the Poke 2 only digital? Maybe there is a 3.5mm minijack audio output in the Poke 3 ?

This for example is a full description:
"Analog and digital audio support - Includes stereo headphone out and microphone in analog ports and S/PDIF digital output port." https://support.lenovo.com/lv/en/accessories/pd011741 On the Boox page there is the pictogram of the earphones, but it is not clear what it means. At the bottom of the page "Poke 3 vs Poke 2" https://www.boox.com/poke3/ Last edited by Eures; 12-11-2020 at 01:27 PM. |
