I went during early voting. I heard that so many people in my area had voted early that the lines were pretty short today. The lines here are outdoors in order to limit the number of people inside the polling places, but fortunately we had good weather during most of the early voting days as well as good weather today.
cc, that's great that someone rescued your earpiece! |

I did early voting on 10/27. There was an hour plus fifteen minutes' wait, but better than the weekend when people reported 4 hours on the first day and two hours on Sunday. My early voting place was Madison Square Garden in NYC.

As at least one Youtuber put it:
"Congratulations! You've made it to December, the final level of 2020!" So, my Moto G phone got an "update" yesterday, and apparently one of the new "features," which has been in other Android phones for a while, is that the Bluetooth status bar icon now only appears when certain types of devices are connected. It no longer shows when Bluetooth is enabled, but not connected, as it always had. Please tell me, fellow venters and ranters, that you see this for what it is, as I do: One more bit of control taken away from us in controlling devices that we supposedly own. One more step in taking away our freedom. One more decision that our "nannies" think we should leave in their hands, and not worry our pretty little heads over. One more step in training consumers to believe that they are indeed only consumers and nothing more, helpless sheep that should just eat what were fed by Apple and Google and Congress, and not get all uppity thinking that we should have a say in how our resources are used. Or more little step down the slippery slope. Last edited by ApK; 12-04-2020 at 09:56 AM. |

I'd argue Android peaked some time before KitKat, probably in the Jelly Bean era.

Dear Big Lots cashier,
When there is a long line at the checkout, please do not take the time to slowly and carefully fold every T-shirt a customer is buying. They are just T-shirts! They don't need special handling. Besides, many people are going to wash clothes before wearing them for the first time anyway. (for those in other countries, Big Lots is a low-end discount store in the US) |

Cancer! Bloody cancer!
My brother-in-law was having trouble swallowing, after some tests, found out he has a cancerous tumor in his esophagus. The cancer has already spread to lymph nodes and liver and is stage 4. He had just retired 3 years ago when my sister got her breast cancer diagnosis. She is doing well, cancer free right now. But this news is devastating. |

Deskisamess - so sorry to hear this - the impact of an unexpected cancer diagnosis is devastating. Stay strong.

On a lighter note, Amazon has nothing to fear from Walmart challenging Prime delivery.
Last week, Amazon ran out of stock of an item we order regularly (i.e., every week) - scheduled for Subscribe and Save automatic delivery. So I thought 'what the heck' I'll order it from Walmart with free 2 day delivery. I placed the order last Friday with a Monday delivery date. It's still not here. The item remained in Walmart's GA warehouse until Wednesday, when it finally arrived somewhere in NC. It's been in a Fed-Ex facility Thursday & Friday. Still there today. Not yet on a truck. Last time I had the misfortune of a Fed-Ex delivery, my package was driven around town for 2 days. Sad when your packages travel more than you do. ![]() |

Of the majors, USPS, UPS, and now Prime, I’ve had by far the worst experiences with Fed-Ex. Misdelivered packages, etc. Earlier this week, I watched the truck drive back and forth past my driveway three times before it finally pulled in (I was watching as it was a computer monitor and it was going to rain, so I wanted to retrieve it pronto). And aside from performance issues, the truck drives way over the speed limit, and this in a neighborhood with winding streets, hills, no sidewalks, kids and animals (of both the wild and domestic variety).
