Update to firmware V3.0 for older devices - Page 7

The Onyx Note (first generation) will get the firmware V.3 as well. I received an answer from Onyx.

Actually, I am now pretty confident that we will see the V3 update offered to the first generation of Android 6 devices since people are reporting that the new version of the note app and the reader app work reasonably well on such devices and since some people seem to be beta testing the new firmware.

As for the long-promised upgrade to a newer version of Android, I don't expect that will ever happen no matter how patient one is.

Agreed.. we'll likely never see a different version of Android on any of the devices, Onyx want you to buy new hardware. However, I am very pleased that on my Note Plus I effectively have version 3.0 functionality in the Note and Reader apps right now. Onyx deserve some kudos for developing their front end and making it available to older models. It can't be too long before we do actually see 3.0 on all devices.

Gibbo mines is working fine, even booting up faster. Anything in particular you're experiencing on your NovaPro?

I may suggest doing an android reset and seeing if that helps.

As far as I know it's impossible to downgrade, unless you have partition dumps.

@Gibbo The way I read the threads is that it is quite easy to downgrade. You just copy an update.upx file of the desired version to your internal storage and Onyx recognizes it and allows you to ‘upgrade’ to that version.
I have saved all previous update files of the Note Pro for that reason to my PC. So I would download the previous firmware, unpack it and put it on the internal storage.

Well I was using neoreader and out of the blue the screen froze after pressing the home button the touch sensitivity thingy went berserk it flipped 180 degrees up became down!!! so you can imagine the working out I had to do at the wee hours of the morning!!.

After a full charge she looks fine and dandy, I'll keep an eye out lets see how she behaves, hopefully with the coming full V3 she'll be fine.

@Markismus Did you actually try to downgrade? I saw some people saying that it doesn't actually let you downgrade and just displays error message. If you succeeded that'd be pretty cool

@Galunid I honestly can't remember. I think I disliked v2.3 for some reason an reverted to v2.1.2. However, maybe v2.3.1 came out... I seem to remember having to rename the xxxxxxx-update.upx file to update.upx only, before it worked. However, we're talking about thing I might have done in May. I know for sure that I took a lot of precautions before upgrading. I don't know whether had to I use them.

(I did also get the partitions backup, radical_update, system, boot, recovery, vendor, kernel and resource from 2.2.2. So if you've rooted the device, you can reflash them and then reupgrade to whatever version.)

My Note 1 received the 3.0 update today 1st December. The update features were all in Chinese so can't confirm what was included.
