I know there is no new official version. But it's just easier to call it the new version.

An I know under Windows, it runs fairly poorly overall.

It's easier to pretend a lot of things are the way you want them to be when they're not, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to do so.

The master branch of a work in progress is not intended for the average user to be playing with. Only developers (or knowledgeable testers with the developers' ear) should be working from the master branch at this point. Everything else is just extra noise.

You posted in a thread called "New Version of DRM removal tools ("DeDRM") in the E-book General => News forum. Nothing calibre related in those names.

If you cast your eyes down the list of forums you will notice E-Book Software which has Calibre as a forum.

There you would either have been told the procedure which should not disturb your preferences or library or, more likely, pointed at several threads that already discuss the procedure. Basically, it amounts to uninstall calibre 5.xx then re-install calibre 4.23. You would then add any plugins you were using that were removed or disabled for not being Python3 compatible and you should be up and running Any books you added to your library which did not have DRM removed will have to be removed and re-added since DRM removal is only done on the add to library.

Apprentice Harper just released a beta v7.0.0b1 for Calibre 5 on GitHub

Release Notes:

Here is an early version of the DeDRM plugin for calibre 5.x.

There will be bugs. It won't work for everything. It needs a lot more testing and bug fixes.

But I think that it might work for Kindle for PC/Mac (non-KFX, non-Topaz, non-print replica) and downloaded for transfer vis USB to an e-ink Kindle (again, non-Topaz, non-print replica).

I think it also works on Adobe Digital Editions (ePubs) with ADE 2.0.1.

I think this includes finding Kindle for PC/Mac and ADE keys.

But much more testing is needed. It might not even work for the items listed above. But I think it is a starting place.

Pretty simple to edit that one line, repack the .zip file and Bob's your uncle. Personally, I feel that any Python 2 compatibility should be dumped. calibre 4.23 gets 6.80 and that's all ys wrote.
