Your log file only showed one access that was not a SUCCESS and that was to look for a file called "mime". This is something Qt related and not part of our code. But I do not think it is the cause of the problem.
Is this crashing happening when working with one specific ebook? Perhaps it a an ebook with a file name that needs to be Percent encoded when in url form? If so, this bug was found and fixed. This bug creates DEBUG output. So perhaps logging the debug output in Sigil to a file and posting it here just after a crash would help. Try setting the environment variable: SIGIL_DEBUG_LOGFILE To point to a file on your desktop (with a path to your desktop and with a file name something like debug.txt) and then fire up Sigil and when it crashes post the "debug.txt" file zipped up here. Yes, as DiapDelaer said try a fresh clean sigil.ini file as crashing can and does corrupt it. And you might want to remove the QtWebEngine cache files in your Sigil directory as well just to be safe.
Remove the cache folder and its contents: C:\Users\HP\AppData\Local\sigil-ebook\sigil\cache |

I think all you have to do is rename the existing sigil.ini into something else like sigil.bak. Then reopen Sigil and it will create a new .ini if it can't find the old one.

Yes just rename sigil.ini and let Sigil create its own new version. Please try to generate a debug log file of a crash by setting the SIGIL_DEBUG_LOGFILE environment variable.

Hi, KevinH,
I don't know if you've heard this before today, but I went to download the updated version of Sigil and Windows Defender threw up a screen saying "This program may harm your computer". Microsoft Edge (with Windows 10) wouldn't even let me download it, at first. I had to get it in Chrome. So... There might be some infection in your zip files. Here's a screenshot of the error message. ![]() |

Not likely. It does not claim it is infected. It just says it does not recognize it. If you downloaded it directly from our Release page and the sha 256 checksum matches what is in our Checksums file then you should be safe. I think this is just more very poor "AI" from Defender. Epub development and Sigil itself does not have a large installed base so it makes sense that Defender does not recognize it.

That's just Microsoft being pissy about a file that hasn't seen a lot of downloads yet.
Note the hideously vile descriptions like "Unrecognized app" and "might put your PC blah, blah, blah." Not one word about strange behavior or malicious code. Just "we don't know what this is so we're going to scare you needlessly." ![]() All you needed to do was click the teeny, tiny, ambiguously worded "More info" link to get around the the warning. You'll then see that not a single antivirus program thinks that the installer is infected. You can also click here to the see the results for the Sigil 1.4.1 installer. |

I am seeing an issue with Sigil 1.4.1 where an & in the content.opf is becoming & when I make any changes in the content.opf. If I make another change in the content.opf, another #38; is added after the &.
Code:

Code:

Code:

|

Man... you just saved me from putting out a version 1.4.2 with this issue still in it. My finger was literally on the button when I read this! ![]() |

Good to hear that the issue was confirmed. Though I was rather hoping that it was something that I was doing.

I am not seeing this on macOS? Which is strange. I opened the content.opf of a new empty epub and added the following:

Then made the opf change by adding a couple of blank xhtml pages via BookBrowser and then deleting a few of them at random. At the end I re-opened the content.opf and see the following:
So I do not see any numeric entities added for for an & (& is the numeric entity for an &). So how exactly am I supposed to change the content.opf that will illustrate the problem? Thanks, KevinH |

Are you are sure this is with Sigil 1.4.1 and not Sigil 1.4.0?

Ah! I see it MUST be in an attribute not in that tags value.
